Regular cash gifts...?

If a person were to receive regular cash gifts upwards of £30k per month by different people- would they be investigated by tax authorities? Perhaps they'd think payment was being disguised as a 'gift'?
And if so, how would they go about their investigation?

Tell us more about the circumstances. Who is paying? Why? Are you trying to hide something from someone?

Why does anyone give a gift?

There are lots of reasons. But if you seriously want some actual advice, you're going to have to be a lot more specific about your particular circumstances.

I don't think so. I've provided sufficient information for anyone with any actual knowledge to give appropriate advice.

No you haven't. You haven't provided any information at all.

My question is quite simple. You want me to give a reason why a person would get a cash gift? The only way that could be relevant to HMRC is if there's a form you fill out that specifically asks for a reason for giving.

Well if HMRC investigate that's the first question they'll ask, so it's best to get your story straight first.

Personally I think if you're in receipt of "regular cash gifts upwards of £30k per month" - i.e. over £360k a year - you're in a position where you can afford to buy the best professional help available, so why you're wasting your time faffing around on an internet forum beats me. And given your reticence on the subject, I suspect you should be more concerned about being investigated by the local constabulary than HMRC.

I don't recall ever saying I was in that position, you twit. You're not helping, please leave.

You haven't said much of anything. And that's the problem. The more 'mysterious' you make it all sound, the more iffy it seems. If HMRC became aware of the fact that you were receiving £30k a month from some random people for no reason whatsoever they probably would refer the case to the local constabulary, because they likely would assume that you were up to no good.

And therein lies my answer- now was that so hard? Although I don't see how HMRC would know it was for "no reason" or for any reason at all unless that form really does exist.
