Sadly at least half of my 'sensible' guess have turned out to be wrong. The field I am in they ask questions like 'How many Tea bags were sold in the UK' at interview and you are not expected to know the answer.

    6 zeros is a million
    9 zeros is a billion
    12 zeros is a trillion
    15 zeros is a quadrillion
    18 zeros is a quintillion
    21 zeros is a sextillion

    and so on.

So the below answers are in billions.

To put it into context, to spend £40,000,000,000, that would be about £2 a day since the dinosaurs died out.

That's what I thought. But although less fashionable now another traditional way of counting (especially for money) is apparently:
    6 zeros is a million
    9 zeros is a milliard
    12 zeros is a billion
    15 zeros is a billiard
    18 zeros is a trillion
    21 zeros is (unthinkable)

The numbers we are talking about "these days" are as close to "space numbers" as i care to imagine. What next?

That's called the 'long-form' and is still used in most of the world. Certainly the French still use it.

The first 3 quotes should be pretty easy. I agree the quiz is probably too hard. If I do one next year I'll make it easier.

Okay, so that last one was Mervyn King. Then it's back to the drawing board. :)
