  • There is a really good book by colour me beautiful that tells you what works for different people.
As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again
  • I can recommend buying Gok's Work your Wardrobe book (£5 in WHSmiths at the moment) He has loads of tips for what clothes to buy that will suit different body shapes and can be worn in lots of different ways, so you get your money's worth out of each piece.:money::j
I am 39 years old and am a curvy size 14. I have used his tips - believe me they do work and are not just for young women but women of all ages.

Do you have a Debenhams nearby. They have a personal shopper service. http://www.debenhams.com/customer-service/personal-shopper

My friend used this service when she was promoted and wanted "grown up" clothes ... she said the assistant was fab and was very understanding of her budget. Take a camera with you, so even if you dont buy the clothes you have a record of what you wore that you liked

I'm average chested, with an ample derriere after christmas, to put mildly, although not huge, (10-12 currently, want to get back to a 10 though, lol!) does show on me (christmas excesses!).

Try semi-fitted v-necked tops/tunics that flare out slightly at the waistline, to make the most of your bust, and get rid of any unwanted bits.

Jersey dresses/tunics, are invaluable in this weather. I like People Tree. Some good sale bargains, their dresses especially. Great deals from £9.50 up.

i have bought some tunic dresses at asda that cost about £10 each and wear these with leggings (shapewear ones from Primark £4) or some of the 300 denier tights again from asda

I also have some long knitted tunic dress things from Primark and again they wear well

I have quite a big bust for my size but think most people look fine in tunic dresses and leggings and I find them as comfy as wearing jeans

I also buy the £6 black trousers as Asda and wear with a top or shirt think these are quite flatterig cut and last well for what you pay for them

I find it hard to get away from jeans trackies and hoodies as like to be comfy but have found the above to be comfy but smart

If you have a Debenhams that do a dress me service use that. You are under no obligation to buy, but if you ask them to dress you for specific outfits you will get an idea of what suits you for no charge. Then you can choose to buy any pieces that you like or shop around for cheaper alternatives. With the sales on at the moment you could pick up some fab pieces though.

ETA: I used this service and ended up with a stunning dress, a style I would never have chosen at a price much cheaper than I anticipated paying.

I am also small chested and large hipped...and large thighs too...the more I exercise the worse it gets!!

Once again thank you for all your suggestions - I've looked at that gok book and it's about £8.50 online will check in store.

Murtle your shape sounds exactly like mine.

I've done the debenhams service before and ended up spending nearly £300 for one night out (luckily ex oh paid) may try again when funds are a bit better.

I live not far from Cardiff so I have lots of shops to choose from.

Happy35 I will have a look at those tunics.

I am just so awkward shaped about 5' 6" on a good day, and some where between a 10/12/14.
