Cookson pension plan help

Hi all looking for some help and advice. Today my husband has received a pack from Cookson regarding a pension plan he holds. The pack details a plan he has held in the past although many of his personal details are wrong on the plan statement his date of birth NI no. He has no memory of ever paying into this scheme as he has a regular plan with Abbey and has had previous plans with Pearl and he has received statements for these plans.
What I need to really know is if this is a scam as some details are wrong and there is a note to call a number to correct any details but he does not want to give any details out unless we know it is genuine.
We have no paperwork to show any details of dealings with Cookson and any plan he may hold
Thanks im hoping someone will be able to shed some light or offer advice on what to do

Who is this Cookson? What does the pack say about them? The only likely one I can find on the net is a medium sized materials, metals, and electronics company. Could your husband at some stage have worked for a company subsequently taken over by Cookson?
Suggest you give us details of the company or ring them yourself to find out who they are - presumably their note includes contact details.
I guess its possible that your husband has been confused with someone else with the same name.0 -
Hi thanks for the reply no he has never worked for a company called Cookson (always self employed) any the only pension provision is by pearl/Abbey or so he thinks. The pack has a transfer statement and says he has money in the plan and a transfer guide. The address is Cookson Group plc 165 fleet street which I Googled. The letter has said they have had to track him down and therefore mis identification is a possibility it just seems odd some of the info is correct name address and retirement age but NI no and soem of the date of birth is wrong. Guess we will just leave it to see what pans outNew to comping 11/2/2013

Cookson Group Plc is the metals/materials company - the address is genuine. I would guess they have lost contact with one of their pension plan members who happens to have the same name as your husband. Your husband is the nearest match they have been able to find - its easy to get an address from someones name.
Suggest you contact them and tell them they have got the wrong person. You shouldnt need to pass on any of your husband's details.
If you have doubts about any phone number they have given you, you could ring them at their head office and ask to speak to the pensions department.

Which would suggest it is not his.Guess we will just leave it to see what pans out
Why not tell them that the NI number and date of birth is not your husbands and he has no recollection of this company. There is someone out there with a similar/same name who is owed this money and if you do nothing, they may never get it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
