Yes they are expensive unfortunatley but they are fitted by someone who (hopefully)is trained to find the best fit to suit your childs feet, just because they measure size 4 1/2 does not mean that this is the size and width that will fit the best as it is a guide. If you are going to buy some without them being fitted then it doesnt really matter if thety are clarks or not.bye hoo0

Have you tried
http://www.shoesforkids.co.uk
they sell clarks shoes at cheaper prices, they also only have certain sizes,0 -
Childrens shoes are outrageously expensive but that's because they are made in many different widths in miniature, fitted by trained fitters who advise for right fit and growth. If the shoe doesn't fit properly your child could be clawing at the floor to keep the shoe on and damage the foot.
I've always been lucky and only needed to but one pair of school shoes and one pair of sandals a year for my boys. Expensive yes but I'd rather spend on good well fitting shoes than a football kit or electronic games or labelled clothes.

do you have one of the clarks outlet shops near you. they always have the f fitting in their shoes and are about half the price0

I seem to be in the minority in that I have never had my DD's feet measured.
Her shoes have been measured by myself against her feet - I saw a foot expert on 'this morning' say that unlike adults, young children need an extra inch to grow into so that their feet arent ever restricted. My DD (2yrs now) has always had shoes from the likes of Asda, vertbaudet in the sale etc. and i just go up the sizes when she grows. I never bothered with the width fitting - just tried the shoes on DD and gauged myself if they were too wide/tight etc.
I think we can be guilted into thinking that Clarkes is the only way and intricate width fittings and sizing every 6 weeks are a must. I never had a Clarkes fitting as a tot and my feet are fine too amazingly!
When they get older and stay in a size for more than a few weeks I'd consider paying more obviously but as babies/toddlers they just arent on their feet long enough to warrant paying £25 a go for a toddler IMO0 -
i always have my childrens feet measured purley because they have an e fitting, and always at clarks i (usuallly) get away with one pair of school shoes a year and a pair of trainers (not from clarks) Although my dd loooooves shoes and tends to get them with a change of season although shes not in school yet. Recently i went to the clarks outlet in cheshire oaks and had ds2 and ds3 measured and fitted and they cost £12 and £7!!! Bargain! Ds1 "wouldn't be seen dead in a pair of clarks shoes!" hes 12 and will only wear brands , i have to say that they fell apart within 3 months. I did notice that they had alot of baby shoes all at about half thr rrp and some were a third of the rrp.It may be worth a trip to your nearest outlet villiage. Hope this helpsSometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p0

thankyou all.
when buying shoes do you go for half a size up or the size they are now? (before i go a hunting on t'interweb again)There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
There should be a third of an inch (half a size is a sixth of an inch) from the end of the big toe to the end of the shoe when the child is standing up.One tip I used to use when fitting shoes is to put a small amount of talcum powder into the front of the shoes and let the child walk about a little then take them off and there will be an imprint of where the toes end.bye hoo0

That is so true.
If your daughter measures a 4.5f then once you start trying shoes on she may need a 5E, a 4.5G, even a 4.5E or maybe a 5F. It depends on the style & fit of that particular shoe.
6 different styles of 4.5F shoes will fit differently. One will be fine, another too long, another too short, one maybe wide, another too narrow or too shallow.
When you buy shoes secondhand they are already moulded to the original childs foot shape so thats not such a good idea either.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
Anty, on ebay have you looked in the baby or childrens/girls section? that may be why you are only getting adult/junior sizes, i have always managed to find buds sizes on there x:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0
