Tax on CC charge

I have been reading through HMRCs info on paying Income Tax. They have an online service that lets you pay using a CC. What I want to know is whether this is like a normal CC purchase or whether its a cash transaction. Has anybody else done this?

To a significant degree - that depends on your Card provider. From posts on here, when it was first introduced a few years ago - all were treated as normal purchases.

    But don't forget there's a Surcharge (1.25% ?) for using it.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

I`m not sure of the % HMRC charge , but when you ring to make a payment the Operator *should* tell you the transaction charge.

There is no 'operator'. The % charge is listed on the HMRC site, I didn't see the need to check it - hence the ?.

There is no operator or for that matter no telephone. This is an online payment that is being discussed.

The fee for credit card payments is 1.4%

Thanks for clearing that up for me. My tax bill is ~£200 more than my CC limit. Is it possible to pay most by CC and the remaining in another form or give my card a positive balance in order to stay within the limit?

Yes. They don't care how you pay, as long as you do.
