Does your luck really change?

Hi all DFW's,

I am chomping at the bit to finish my debt and be clear once and for all. I had 10 creditors, 7 have been paid in full and I am still waiting to hear from the other 3, but fingers crossed I will have paid off about £69,000 in 4 1/2 years. Albeit the remaining £23k has come from the equity in my house by increasing my mortgage and moving house, but the mortgage payments are about £400 per month less than I was paying to CCCS and my previous mortgage combined.

At my lightbulb moment in May 2002 I was probably at my lowest point, I had even considered how to kill myself and make it look like an accident as I worth more dead than alive. Thankfully that was a fleeting thought, albeit several times. But now the end is nigh and everything is looking good, I just wondered how everyone else fells about lady luck, do you think you make your own or do have to go through bad luck to finally get some good. Another nice surprise I had today was being told I had won 2 tickets to a premiership match of my choice, and I have never won anything before in my life, now my son can actually go to see his favourite team in the flesh at last.

What do you think folks, does positivity breed positivity and so called luck?:D

    Categorically yes!

Have you ever read 'The Luck Factor'? Basically the idea is that there are seven factors that influence 'luck'. Much of it is remarkable common sensical - like you will never win anything if you don't enter any competitions etc! It's about doing different things to get different results & looking on the bright side etc. I definitely believe you can influence it!
Do or do not. There is no try. (Yoda!)

I think money goes to money...I now get interest in my current account as I actually have some sitting there during the month! (albeit apportioned through budgeting).

Being positive about money has increased my quality of life - less stress and worry, more time walking/out in fresh air, less (read that as very little) rushing to the shops  . Maybe I've shrugged off that air of desparation I once felt and yes, I guess I do feel luckier these days. Nothing to back it up though!
    Back on the DFW Wagon:

    CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
    CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
    Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/18
  • I've read loads of positive thinking books, articles etc. Basically, the luckier you think you are the luckier you will be.

For example, if you think you'll never win a comp you'll never enter one so will never win, self fulfilling. If you enter you have a chance of winning, albeit slim, and as you've found you can get 'lucky' - so will do again, thereby increasing chances of winning, and become 'lucky', so enter more etc. etc.

Well done, and congrats on debt repayments!!!

i'm not sure where i stand on this one. i do try really hard to keep a positive and happy attitude to life, i try and keep strong when thigns get bad and fight back against it. maybe trying isn't enough? i find that a few things will start going right and it'll get a little easier then something goes wrong and it's like being back at the start again.

Yeah I know what you mean. I find luck comes in stages. I either have a few weeks where luck is on my side then I have a few weeks where I think life really sucks. Last week was a good week - paid off quite a bit of debt, went out for nice meal and won £50 on lottery. This week, argued with DD, DS caught playing truant, rowed with ex-hubby and feel bad cos I aint done so well paying off debt this week!

Will get up in the morning and think positive, will wake up and find Brad Pitt in my shower, will open my garage door and find porche parked there, will go to work and the boss would have brought in cakes and actually have a smile on his face and to top it all will will millions on the lottery tomorrow night! YEAH RIGHT
