Angard(royal mail)

My son got a temp christmas job with royal mail (angard) which I thought brilliant.
How wrong could I of been.
First they gave him the wrong rate of pay.
Then they paid him but took that much tax off him it was nearly half his wage.
Then the next week they gave him a different rate of pay so he got even less
This week he received £91 for working 7 hours per night for five days. God knows what rate of pay it is this week.
You cannot get intouch with them only via. email then they dont reply.
He is getting so angry and working his socks off for such little money.
In some respects I keep saying well its only temp. and its better than JSA and I keep saying to him if he gives it up then he will get nothing because he has left the job.
I feel really bad for him and any others that have taken on this role thinking that the Royal Mail might give them a chance of a full time job. But, this rate of pay and all the messing has left him gutted.

You should pop over to royalmailchat.co.uk ,you will find that many are in the same position. There are a lot of phone numbers floating around there for assistance. It's been a screw up from start to finish this year for the casual staff, I have never known a Christmas to be such a shambles in Royal Mail. Feel sorry for all who were involved.

Hope he gets it all sorted.

Could the tax be down to the tax code used - have they applied emergency tax - should be able to get that back eventually?

  • Another week and another total !!!! up on the pay front by this incompetent shower. Yes I use Royal Mail Chat but posting here seems to get read by the mainstream. People need to investigate this shambles and an apology offered to all casuals working this year. Moya Green CEO at RM should be ashamed and be brought in front of a select committee to explain how using Angard has sidestepped the Agency Working changes (12 weeks with Angard, no changes to pay!) and more importantly how setting up the agency within Royal Mail could be handled so badly. My pay this weeks worked out at £3.80ph I'm 50

FT positions simply don't exist anymore
a casual workforce is the futre
any FT staff member that leaves(for whatever reason/method) isnt replaced
    been that way for years

Actually when you read some of the posts on Royalmailchat.co.uk you will see that they have got the national press involved. I think this is the way to go to give them the shame that they so rightly deserve. There are people there who declined the offer of a job that have had money paid into their accounts  and people who have had no money whatsoever. Then there are the people who haven't been paid enough for the hours that they have done. It's atrocious that they have got away with it. Remember RMC is nothing to do with RM, just a bunch of RM workers who are there to advise each other. There's also an email address for one of the national papers who wanted to cover this story.

I did warn people on other threads about RM.

They were a shambles 10 year ago and they still are.

    Keep well away.

I worked at the Plymouth MDEC this Christmas and I generally agree with the above. There were several Reed temps at Christmas 2010 who were kept on at the MDEC for an entire year. They were given a week's holiday just before December 2011 - and it was from several Royal Mail employees that I was informed that Royal Mail staff are given permanent contracts after their first year at the centre. Under Royal Mail rules, those Reed (later Angard) temps would have been perfectly entitled to a permanent job working for Royal Mail. The week's holiday was a cover not to employ them! Furthermore, on 21st December 2011, they learned that after a year's service at the MDEC, they would not be needed.

I was one of those people kept on after Christmas 2010 with the promise of jobs - a carrot dangled in front of us months after the 1000s of other temps had gone. I was genuinely ill for one day and the two strike rule removed me after 6 months. They kept cutting our hours - from 25 a week to just 9. Agency are treated like dirty at MDEC.

Reed = Angard = rubbish. Reed messed up wages, tax and holiday pay last year; Angard, a Reed Global managed company, did the same this year. Same faces, different agency.

    Bring on 2012!

The 12 week rule came into force in October 2011 - any length of service prior to this month does not count towards your temporary contract.

I started working at Royal Mail as a casual Christmas 2010 , my T&C were as a night worker min wage plus £1.76ph shift allowance. Under Angard (RM/Reed since September 2011) this shift allowance was cut to 50pph. Also previously our breaks were paid, under Angard unpaid. Now I have a question as I have been with Angard since the new Agency Working rules started on 1st Oct will I now be entitled to my previous T&C? and if so can I expect them to be backdated to Oct 1st for all the hours I have worked. I am still working in the mail centre doing exactly the same job. Thoughts please.
