Is sky really losing money with introductory offer customers?

Hello there,

Not sure where to put this so feel free to move it. I have read on the forum and also in papers that sky are rooting out their so called loss making customers i.e people like me who only sign up for inrroductory offers and keep going from one introductory offer to another, which I freely admit I have done for almost a year now. Sky has just been switched off here as no offers available to me, and to be honest I dont want to pay over £21 a month for the old family package i.e 6 mix as I feel its not worth it at that price to me.

But what surprises me though is how are sky really losing money? Over the last year I have given them near £125 so is there some hidden cost to sky that I am not aware of i.e are they actually making a net loss per customer when they allowed them in the past to do as I have done.

I have read that they have lost around 180,000 in the last quarter of 2006 but then again they do have over 8 million subscribers and probably most of them are not too bothered about paying the full whack.

It probably does add up though 180,000 left say at £10 a head well that must surely be over £1.5 million in lost revenue to sky, unless as stated above they were actually making a loss to start off with when they offered half price to customers.

Wonder what you think?

Joe

They can't possibly be losing money. Deliviring the TV to 8,000,000 customers will cost almost exactly (billing being the only difference) as delivering the TV to 8,180,000 customers. If anything, they may be able to charge more for advertising slots if the number of subscribers is bigger!

They're just a bunch of money grabbing bar-stewards.

    Just my $0.02 worth.

    Cheers

We got rid of Sky last year because I was sick of paying out for a load of repeats, we just watched the free channels for a bit then got a TV with built in Freeview so the Sky box went. I have spent hours telling them they are wasting my time and theirs ringing me up on a weekly basis to badger me to resubscribe.

They make a fortune from advertising and I don't think we need to worry about them losing the subscribers who realise they were wasting chunks of money every month.
