New business but unemployed - questions!

Whether or not an ebay business is a good idea or not all depends on the market you think you have found. Ebay is not hard, it doesn't even have to be stressful if you accept that buyers have rights and work within the laws as well as ebay and paypal rules. However the main stress is finding the product to sell, if you have a sure fire idea, a good wholesaler or stockist and have done the research then yes ebay can be a good little earner. If you don't have all that set up, then I would certainly rethink.

NONONO. This is completely different and is only available to people who have been on a sickness related benefit - Incapacity or ESA. It is for 52 weeks. I got it.0 -

There is no way you could start a business from scratch, I dont care what anyone else tells you. To start a business has to be something you want to do and not be forced into doing. Take up your concerns with your local citizens advice centre before you even dream of phoning HMRC. If you speak to your job centre they will not be able to give you the proper advice. Do not go self employed and stay as you are untill you are in a better position. Do not go into self employment lightly as it will open you up to more problems than you ever thought. Look for advice on you unemployment status first, "DO NOT" let the job centre pressure you into anything. You have RIGHTS, use them.
I beg to differ.
It is possible to start a business from scratch. If it were not so then no businesses would ever start.
We do not know the circumstances of the OP and therefore are not well placed to decide on their ability or otherwise to start a business with help from other family members.0 -

Depending on your illness you will find working for yourself a lot more stressful than working for someone else - if it's not successful there is the stress of why, what can you do to improve things, how are you going to pay your bills, etc. If it is there is VAT, other regulations to do with distance selling, pricing your goods correctly so that you are able to make a profit when you have paid all your expenses, etc etc.
It's something that you should consider when you are 150% fit, not coming out of long term illness, or, as something to get the JobCentre off your back I'm afraid.
I totally agree with all your points on here and it seems a thing the Jobcentre and the Goverment think that kick people off the Benefits and get them starting up a business is ideal-Yet stresssfull to do when you do not have the following
1)Capitial or savings to start a business
2) Experience or business knowledge
When you have a long term Illness you can feel the strains from starting a business very demanding in your first years of business which is the Xfactor to any business when you have summoned up a solid business plan and have investment or partners. Self employment is very hard But once set up is very rewarding yet you work more hours and time in taking care of your clients and businesses. Unlike the 9-5 JOb you can log off your computer and go home while your boss is in sorting out the hours workstaff current projections and business forecasts, ect Sorry to say this Goverment at the minuite are living a Alice in wonderland dream at present.
My advise like others here is find something thats viable as a business you could do? not what the Jobcentre propose or say? Say if you like gardning start a mail order Rose website. (Just a idea-Read somewhere online how a young 15 year old boy did this and is making a really good income form doing so) My point is find something you like to do and see if its viable for a business."MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -
The point is that someone should not be forced into coming off of benefits they are entitled to and made to think they can start a business. If you have no idea of how to start a business, then you never will. The OP clearly states that, just by reading the post. This is the real world and the OP should take advice before coming off benefits, thats what this post is about. I recently worked with people that are so scarred of losing their jobs, they are abused in my eyes, but I also know, that not one of them could be self employed, if they lost their job. It is not so simple as some people may think.0

Totally agree Tigress but at the present climate its happening all across the country seems if you are sick,Ill disabled you are looked at as a shy person trying to dodge working. Typical tories for you since 1981 with lord tibbert preching his famous speech of "get on your bike and get to work" when 2.79milllion and rising per day in the cycle lanes of unemployment."MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -
The trouble is that those that need the help are not getting it and those that are talentleess morons, like so called celebs, are having money thrown at them. What is it coming to when a 2 bob ex footballer gets £40k for a few minutes on MOTD. I am starting to dispair how things are going. I can see the riots coming back, big time.0
