I heard that the current RTE analogue aerials will be obsolete next year when the Soarview down south kicks in (or we here in NI switch fully over to digital) or something like that. I know it doesn't help with the quote but it might be worthwhile holding off on the RTE aerial?

Can anyone else confirm my thoughts on the RTE aerials?
    Regards, Robin.

You need the paid -for Basic Sky package. My free Sky package does NOT provide them.

To get outside aerial installed for freeview will be about £100 plus

Forget about RTE aerial as they are going digital, you may be able to get it thru Freeview next year

    From Saorview website

Irish channels on FREEVIEW in Northern Ireland
A joint UK and Irish Government project is currently examining the possibility of allowing the existing RTÉ and TG4 television services to be carried on part of the UK’s FREEVIEW (Digital Terrestrial Television) platform after analogue switch-off. The objective is to see if it will be possible to complement SAORVIEW overspill into Northern Ireland with some Northern Ireland-based transmitters and thereby expand the availability of these services to more than 90% of the population in Northern Ireland on a Free-To-Air basis.

  • hi all, thanks for the replies, sorry havent been on here again until today so apologies for delay!
I want to get an RTE aerial installed too as Moville is currently broadcasting Saorview (RoI version of Freeview) whereas next year when RTE/TG4 start broadcasting in NI on Saorview 'Lite' the transmitted in Northern Ireland will not broadcast the whole channel line up of RoI channels.
I know the Moville digital signal is picked up in Portstewart/Portrush however looking around my street there are a few large UHF aerials for RTE but not sure it will bring in Saorview.
  • I can pick up the new RTE channels on Causeway coast on Freeview.

Unfortunately, in sound only with no pictures! I think you need a HD Freeview box to get the full pictures of their new digital service.

I can get perfect RTE analogue signals from Moville but I don't know how long the analogue signal will last?

I can recommend ATV of Portrush as an Aerial installer
