This month has really hit my MFW plans hard!

Hi,

I was planning to start the new year on a high by paying a good OP of around £300.

However, we have been hit by a couple of unexpected high costs:
1, Had to spend £50 on the car to fix an oil leak.
2, Having to travel to visit family 100 miles away due to special occasions (non-xmas occasions), this will come to around £300 in total, including travel costs and gifts etc.

This means I may have to start the new year without being able to make an OP. :(

Sorry to hear that dark knight, but don't feel too bad! Can you op a £1 instead this month and start afresh in feb, or maybe find a way to earn a bit extra this month, like selling something on ebay and oping that?

If it was supposed to be an easy ride we would'nt all need to come on her for a bit of support would we :D

    Best of luck for 2012.

  • Thanks, I was thinking of OP something, which would better than nothing.

Then hope for better next month.

I definitely agree - even if it's just maybe like a month of interest - that at least is something?

  • Hi Dark^Knight
Council tax and water rate free couple of months just around the corner for many. What can you Ebay that you don't use or want? Do you fancy switching your current account for just a few months for a few quid. I'll bet if you really tried you could get through a week or so from your freezer and cupboards. You will need to make just £27.27 each month in overpayments over the coming 11 months of this year to cover the £300 you can't OP this one month. That's less than a quid a day....stick with it. When the going gets tough.......

  • Thanks for the ideas people. You sure know how to make someone feel better. :)
  • Hiya DK, I can only echo everyone else's comments. Even if it's only a few £ I would OP something. Any electronic gadgets to eBay? Dried pulses lurking in the cupboard to make a huge vat of veg chilli? Maybe don't go near the shops and just live out of the freezer as someone mentioned?

Good luck and get hunting down the back of the sofa - I may go and try that right now......

    Best wishes Tilly
