Birth announcement

Hi everyone,

Well you guys were right when you predicted my contractions would start again as soon as I went to bed on Friday night. By 1am on Saturday morning I was in agony with contractions every 3 minutes so went into hospital to find that I was 7cm dilated already. I managed to get up to 8cm with a lot of gas and air (it's great that stuff isn't it...) but that's where it all went a bit mad. Those who don't want the gory details can be excused the next bit and you can jump to the happy ending.

I started haemorhaging (sp?) and the baby's heartbeat was suffering with every contraction. I was getting double contractions- not unusual for the way the baby's face was presented apparently but still coping with gas and air. Then all of a sudden things got very urgent- I was given an epidural as they warned me that they would have to speed things up due to the baby being in distress. Unfortunately the epidural didn't work, not even when it was topped up twice. When I started haemorhaging again I was quickly handed a consent form for an emergency caesarean and rushed into theatre within minutes. I was given a spinal block and lay there for what seemed like about 2 minutes before hearing my baby cry as they delivered him- sections are so quick.

So not the natural drug-free birth I'd planned but who cares, my son Thomas entered the world at 5.17am on Saturday weighing 6lb 13. He's a beautiful boy and I'm absolutely besotted with him.

Thank you for all your comments on Friday x x

    Huge congrats Mrs S!

I had an emergency c-section too, though there wasn't time to sign the consent forms

A little tip ..use the dining table to change little Thomas/bath him, etc..much less painful than getting down on the floor whilst you're healing.

    Take it easy.
