This is right. The Nintendo DS has two cartridge slots - one, on the top, for DS games, and one, on the bottom, for Game Boy Advance games. The vast majority of Game Boy Advance games will work, although there are a couple of mostly-Japan-only exceptions.

However, if he does buy a GBA game, it'll only use one of the screens on his DS and not make the most of its capabilities. In most shops he'll be overcharged for new ones, too - if there is a Gamestation near you, try their glass cabinet that holds second-hand boxless cartridges - a GBA game for £7 sounds about right.

If he wants a new DS game, the internet will almost invariably be cheaper.

In either case, unless he's set he should probably avoid film or tv licensed games as they're usually not very good.

hi the gameboy games do play on the DS but I dont think the graphics are as good. I have seen the supermario on gameboy for £14.99 at HMV AND £12.99 at play.com but sold out,but I expect you could still get it cheaper.

  • I have found http://www.movietyme.com to be quite cheap for DS games but they can take a while to be delivered.

Hi There both our boys have the DS now. When they first got it they bought a few GBA games as they were cheaper. But now they are left aside in favour of the DS games they got for Christmas. The other posters are right, they are much better graphics and use the two screens & they can share the play. Also a few GBA games they bought in Tenerife and a Pokemon one doesnt work on the DS.
This is a good site for price checking all types of games: http://www.find-games.co.uk/
I think you will find the DS games are getting a lot cheaper now. Make sure you get cases for them as my boys tend to mislay theirs as they are so tiny.
  • oh by the way the ds extreme cards are £80.

GBA games can be played on a DS lite.

Argos are doing 2 DS lite games for £30 titles such as :

    Cars
    Over The Hedge
    Narnia
    FIFA 06
    Madagascar
    Micro machines
    Sonic
    Pirates Of Carribean

etc etc ... choice of 18 titles

so he could choose any 2 £19.99 games for £30 :)

page 1636 in the latest Argos book
