Hi everyone, Im looking for some advice pls!
My partner is leaving my property as he has been violent to me recently and I need him out of my home to ensure my safety and safety of our baby. I work full time and have been back for a few months. I got maternity pay while I was off. I own the home but it is shared ownership and so I only own 25% share. So pay mortgage for that share and then rent on top. My partner lived with me for several years but didnt contribute a penny and just ran up loads of bills on my name and of course food, electric etc all went up with him using it all. I did everything on my own and struggled. I fell pregnant (unplanned as I didnt think I could have babies) and was really quite happy at the time. I thought it might get my partner to start supporting me but I had to pay for everything for the baby. Got myself deeper and deeper in debt over this time. Partner has been violent and so he has now left. However, the last month or so I have been back at work and baby has stayed home with him as I couldnt afford childcare on one salary really and he was adamant that baby should stay with him. He was more using it as a reason to not look for work as I have been on his case about this for years! He worked the first 2yrs we were together (didnt help then!) and then packed in his job on a whim when baby was born! Hasnt worked since.
Anyway, he is now gone and Im due back at work in January. I cant afford full time child care! But I cant afford not to work full time as my mortgage and rent is about 1k a month! Childcare for the month is also about 1k! I cant afford it and was thinking to sell up the flat but ive heard its near impossible to sell a shared ownership flat? I owe about 20K and was on DMP but cant afford to pay anything. Im very worried about what to do! Spoke to tax credits people and they say im only entitled to about £6 a week childcare help...which covers about an hour of childcare a week. Am i better going BR, then asking the local council to help me with housing after I lose my flat? I just dont know what to do! Sorry...hope I have explained things properly! Thanks so much :-)

You need to speak to one of the debt charities asap! Either CCCS or Payplan.

Who is your DMP with? As the poster above says, speak to one of the debt charities. Ensure you are not using a fee paying company for your DMP as this is money you need or your creditors need.
Regarding childcare, have you family or friends who can help out at least some of the time? Maybe you could offere babysitting to a friend on an evening in return for them helping you out during the day?
What if you worked part time and had the hours made up from tax credits?
Ring up under a pseudonym and give a different salary / hours and see what you would then receive.
Also, post on the debt free wannabe forum and see if anyone has any suggestions regarding cutting down on your outgoings.
Good luck and stay strong - take a look at my signature - the motto i live by - I was once where you are now regarding domestic abuse.LBM August 2011. DFD somewhere post [STRIKE]2025[/STRIKE]2022

Don't think Payplan are a charity..... do ring the National Debtline people though, they are extremely helpful.
Sounds like you've been through the mill recently, here's hoping now that things are on the up for you.

Sorry to hear of your circumstances
. Please give CAP a try - Christians Against Poverty. They are a charity and help anyone, non-christians too through debt problems. They turned up with a huge box of food too. They even payed most of my BR fee's through a cheque. Google them! Hugs to you and the baby

Well, you are correct in that they are not a charity but, as Anatonic says, they do offer free debt advice on DMPs, IVAs,etc. They manage DMPs free for their clients although they charge for IVAs as is always the case with IVAs anyway. They are funded by credit companies, I believe, and work closely with many of the charities such as National Debt Line. They are often referred to as a charity as it is a simple way to differentiate them from fee charging companies.LBM August 2011. DFD somewhere post [STRIKE]2025[/STRIKE]2022

have you checked the am 'i entitled' site to see if you can get tax credit / childcare help, the amount quoted seems very low.0
-
you should be getting a fair bit of help towards childcare (depending on your salary) as you are a single parent - double check with tax credits.
You 'may' be entitled to a small bit of help towards the rent again due to childcare costs.
Entitled to is a good site - think its been renamed google turn2us
Stay strong x40 to go0 -
Hey Smellthecoffee,
Nothing else to add to what the clever folk have already said other than, definitely give CAP a call. They are fantastic and do not care if you are Christian or not.
Keep your chin up, Contact all the numbers provided and you will get there.
Post on here when you like, there is always someone around for a little internet hug or support if you need it.
Stay strong.
