I'm in a pickle again

Ok, in the past I've had some good advice from this column, so here I go again. bought a DVD recorder to transfer my old VCR tapes on to disc. Guy in Comet explained how to set it up. Followed the instructions by the book, got the DVD tuned in to all the analogue channels ( 1-5) VCR plays through ch 6 on TV, ( sometimes have to press the AV button, sometimes it just plays the tape.) but i cant get this to play through the DVD, so it wont record even if I'm watching the tape. The DVD is autoscan, so there is no facility to manual scan for this channel. HELP anybody???

    What model dvdrecorder and video?

How are they all connected up?

Assuming that you have directly connected the video to the dvd recorder with a scart then usually you just select that AV input on the dvd recorder, put in your disc, press record and then press play on the cued video.

If you have them connected via the tv (ie, no direct link between the DVDR and the video) then you would have to supply how they are all connected up.

  • I think I've got a similar sort of set-up to you.

Here's a question for you tho - was your video switched on when you did the auto scan? If it wasn't, put a video on to play, something that you'll recognise as a video, then run the auto scan again. Fingers crossed, this should work & your dvd recorder should think you've got 6 channels instead of 5.

Its a Proline DVDR700 and VCR is Bush ( no model number) The Vcr is connected to the DVD with a scart lead, then another scart from DVD to TV. I did put a tape on play whilst I ran the auto scan. Faz, what do you mean by"select that AV on the DVD recorder"? There is no AV button, but there is a button that says TV/mode. Its probably something that is really simple to correct- cept i dont know what .

  • MMM, had a look at it and it looks like a nice player. Can't seem to find much on operation info tho but will keep looking.

If you have two scarts on the dvdr, you should have a means of switching between them. Usually it's a button marked AV. Do you have a 0 channel?

What does the tv/mode button do?

BTW, did find the multiregion code tho, if you want it Here!

    Try plugging it like this

    Scart leads

    DVD AV1 <
    Scart
    > TV AV1
    DVD AV2 <
    Scart
    > VCR AV1
if you have 2 scarts on the tv and don't have Sky/Freeview:
    VCR AV2 <
    Scart
    > TV AV2

    Aerial leads

    Aerial
    >DVD Rf (aerial) in--->DVD RF out
    >VCR RF in---->VCR RF out ----> TV aerial in.

To record analogue channel on VCR or DVD select channel and record
To playback DVD or VCR select on TV AV1 or AV2

To record on DVD from VCR select AV2 on DVD recorder, monitor recording by pressing AV 2 on TV
