Best things to buy in Lidl?

I should be going to Lidl either tomorrow or the day after, and was hoping for some recommendations of good value things that I should definitely get! I haven't really been before, as it's a bit far from where I live, but I have a lift atm!

Thanks in advance :)

most of the fruit and veg is good with out being special.
Milk is a good price if you like higher fat level.

Cheese - often a offer on some cheese.
Yoghurt - again if offers on some good choice.

They often have coke or other premium soft drink on buy get one free.

Their peanut butter is really yummy.
Their morello cherry jam is the best i have tasted

    I've been Money Tipped!
The best buys are the Lidl "Half-price weekend offers", though they are Friday and Saturday this week due to the New Year and being closed this Sunday. The meat offers can be very good, though pork is quite repetitive - different cuts though. Chicken breasts are popular when they are on half-price and you need to be there early!!
As above, some cheese and the veg offers can be good. Some tinned stuff can be cheap and also things like their own brand biscuits (rich tea, ginger snaps, custard creams) can be cheap.
    Prices are creeping up unfortunately.

    Enjoy your shop.

the custard is really nice Salco i think its called.

My Lidl leaflet which is for tomorrow onwards has:

Lurpak - £1.99 (although their own is just the same)
    6 pack pepsi £1.39
    onions = 39p
    twin pack bacon £1.24
    4 pack branston baked beans - £1
4 pack Heinz tomato soup £1.99
    Nescafe gold blend 200g £3.49

    hth

  • I agree with Cranky about their version of Lur*pak - having tried practically every make to try to cut the costs down a bit.. it's the only one I've found that I like - it's really very similar.

Also agree with Cleggie on the jam front (the cherry's my favourite too!).

    Few of my favourites:

As well as the Custard - the tinned rice pudding is really nice & huge big tins.
Savoury rice - loads of flavours & yummy (great in a roasted pepper with cheese on .... :o)
Diluting (Blackcurrant) & concentrated (Apple) juices
Wraps (really long dated as well)
    Pitta breads (the brown one)
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!
  • I recommend their wholemeal rolls (pack of 6). They are good value when they are not on special offer and superb value when they are (which is quite often) and I prefer their taste to Tesco's equivalent.

Can also vouch for their oven chips and frozen cod fishcakes. Just finihed eating them and really liked them!

    I love Lidl :)

    Recommendations are:

    Fresh lasagne
    Garlic Bread
    Pizza's- fresh and frozen
    Bacon Medallions
    Tinned tomatoes
    Fruit and veg
    Fresh bread, rolls, coissants etc
    Carton Juice
    Milk, yoghurts, cheese
    Chicken/ ham slices
    Fresh chicken, diced beef, mince
Frozen fish - they do a version of the Findus supreme type
    Frozen chicken wings
Gelato- neopolitan ice cream 'sandwich' (inbetween wafers)
    Wine
Bin bags- really thick and good quality
    Foil

Loads of stuff. It is a bit trial and error but on the whole we've been ok with what I've bought.
I do 2- 3 Lidl shops per month and Ocado or Sainsbury's once per month for things that I can't get at Lidl.
My food bill has gone down a lot and the family are not deprived of anything!
