File a NPB....then he gets a strike.
Asking for a cancellation is a bad idea for several reasons. It doesnt teach them a lesson to start with....so they just keep doing it. They might refuse and then youre up poo creek without a paddle and on and on. Not to mention them still being able to leave feedback.0 -
They've messaged you to say they don't want it! There is an awful lot of mistrust over ebay transactions!! I've always cancelled where a buyer has said they don't want it any more and never once has anyone declined the cancellation out of spite. I'm a business seller so we are talking more than a few times.
Worst case scenario, you've got nothing to lose - if you don't raise the cancellation then you lose the fees anyway so if they decline the cancellation you are no worse off. I'm sure ebay would consider refunding you anyway as the buyer has sent you a message saying they don't want it.
If you raise a non-paying bidder dispute they could pay, return it for a refund and then give you negative feedback! Not worth the hassle really seeing as they have already stated they don't want it!
You say a seller has nothing to lose? Oh yes they have. If for some reason a buyer doesnt accept the offer of a cancellation then you are stuck with paying fees and the buyer can leave feedback because you cant then go for a NPB dispute.
With a NPB dispute you get all your fees back, the buyer gets a strike and they cant leave feedback or any feedback they leave can be removed.
If you always offer a buyer a cancellation what stops them doing it over and over? By doing a NPB they are being told 'you cant keep doing this because having 2 strikes means you cant play anymore'
You are actually letting them off with a cancellation....and they can still leave you negs if they really want to. Plus it doesnt sit well on your seller record.0 -
Sometimes people just change their minds or simply make mistakes! At least the buyer had the decency to message the seller rather than just leave it! The OP is setting themselves up for negative feedback - if they don't care about that then all is good I guess!0

Cancellations have no negative bearing at all on your seller account as far as i know so not sure where you heard that? I have done many cancellations and it has had no effect on my account whatsoever.QuackQuackOops wrote: »You cannot get negative feedback when you have filed a NPB.0 -
You might want to read exactly what I wrote as you seem to have misunderstood what I was getting at. I don't always offer cancellations, only if the buyer says they no longer want the item. I don't see the point in raising a NPB if someone has had the decency to say they don't want it anymore. I've raised cancellations on many many occasions when buyers have changed their minds and NONE have ever declined it. Some of them have even become repeat buyers. As I said before, each to their own - if you prefer to always raise an NPB then that's fine - I'll stick to cancellations when they ask as it works well for me. Of course if a buyer can't be arsed to communicate then they will get a NPB.

I never said you could
But the way you deal with it does not help the Ebay community does it? Your buyers effectively bid and dont pay (for whatever reason) and you let them off scot free. And if by mistake they decline your request, you are then stuck paying the fees AND they can leave you neg feedback then pop along to someone else without any strikes.
This is why Ebay is falling down and mistrustful because too many sellers are only bothered about themselves instead of working together to weed out the non payers.0 -
Opening the NBP case today.
Didn't expect to start such a debate!0
