Cheap importation of leather

Hi all, I've been set an assignment for part of my business course to research cheap import of materials that could be made most profitable. I've chosen to research the importation of leather but want to check that so far my research is correct. I've been informed India is known for affordable leather, or cheaper. My other question would be is there different types of quality .
Now I know this is a very niche question I'm hoping that if theres one person out there that may have some knowledgement on this area it would be muchly appreciated

Hi Indian leather for horse tack( saddles and bridles) was used quite widely years ago, the quality wasnt good though and could break being a danger to use which was why it was cheaper, not sure if it is still used now.
