Monsoon Online Sale not all it's cracked up to be

I've been perusing the Monsoon online sale and have noticed that they are claiming that some items had a higher pre-sale price than they actually did?! As an example, I bought a Jenny spot dress at full price last month for £69, it's now in the sale for £48 listing the 'Was' price as £95; I was going to buy the Melisa tunic before Christmas at its full price of £69, it's now in the sale for £55, listing the 'Was' price as £110! And I'm sure there are many more similar discrepancies, but they're the only two I'm 100% sure on.
Now I can't believe that a company like Monsoon would be doing anything illegal, and they are maybe using some legal loophole that says if the item was sold at that price for, say, 20 minutes in, say, their Outer Hebridean store, that it's okay to list it as the original selling price, but in my mind it is more than a little misleading, bordering on dishonest!
At the end of the day, if an item is worth the sale price to you there's no real harm done, but just be aware that the savings are not always what they seem.

I've actually come across a couple of items on one of the popular online/high street shops and the before price seemed too high that I wondered if they've tweaked it.. as it was higher than I remember but ofcourse I don't have a proof of that or the energy/time/money/or frankly bother much to enter into a dispute with the company...
If you're really annoyed by this you could send an e-mail requesting price history (argos for example does show the dates of when the price was valid)... you could request this as part of the freedom of information act.. (maybe someone else here can even come up with a better consumer law) .. keep the e-mail light and friendly though..0 -
No consumer law here but I can promise that the closest Monsoon have to an Outer Hebridean store is in Inverness.0
