Tesco 'Sales' Vent

Options
Last year a new Tesco Extra opened a few months early than expected and instantly became our new supermarket as it's opposite our flat and tends to sell everything we need at much better price than anywhere else and wish less stress. However lately this Tesco Extra has been very cheeky!

Every Sunday they put out products they simply have leftover and want rid of quickly and mark them down. Sounds normal, right? But the thing I overheard the manager say made me realise it wasn't all that normal at all. They were selling some Toy Story 3 colouring pens as "Was 99p Now 98p" which is not a sale, I wasn't going to buy them at 99p I'm hardly going to grab them now they are 1p less. But then the manager told the staff next to her "Just write another price on the tag and slash it out, they will fly off". Yes she was telling her staff to put fake prices on these cheap colouring pens and when I finished my shopping found they had WROTE onto the tags £1.50 which then had a line slashed through it then said "Was 99p Now 98p" as well. And guess what? People were now buying them!

They still do it and I'm fairly sure supermarkets have to put proof of least a date of when that product was that price, if it ever was. This is insane and just plain wrong.

They are really lizards from venus in disguise they are slowly getting everywhere. They have started to hypnotise people so they can be made to do there will. We must protect ourselves from them. The best way is to put tin foil on your head. Then twice daily cover yourself in golden syrup and beat yourself with birch twigs. That way you won't be put under their evil spell.

Does it still work if you buy the tin foil and golden syrup from Tesco???????

Or have they contaminated it in some way? To stop innocent folk protecting themselves? They're sneaky like that!!!
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    Peace, love and labradors!
  • I agree with you op. I was on here a few weeks ago with a thread about a whole crate of toys that was reduced to clear in tesco by the grand total of 1p off the full price. I complained and mentioned trading standards. It was removed the next day.

it works if you pay full price. All reduced goods are contaminated.

I've been stocking up on Pringles at my local Tesco Metro at £1 a tube, popped in yesterday and they are on at "Better than half price £2.59", I thought this was bad even by Tesco standards until I looked closer at the tags which all showed "Better than half price £2.59" and in very small writing "Previous selling price £2.59"

I pointed it out to them, but I would be very surprised if they correct it

Stores do that; basically buying something you don't need just because the ticket says it is reduced is not the smartest way to shop.

You also have to watch out for the reduced food nearing its sell-by date, because sometimes the offers aren't really that great (eg. a single item "reduced" to the amount it would have been on a multi-buy).

Saw something similar in Asda the other week. Bought an item for £0.80 which was showing as previously £1.

Exactly 7 days later the item is again £1 with a red tag around it, suggesting a price cut/offer/promotion, although at least they didn't fib outright!
