Don't Throw Food Away Challenge 2012
Comments
-
This is my first ever posting on this forum - I have finally joined after being a serial lurker for just over a year. This challenge has become the motivation to make me sign up as we are terrible food wasters and I know this has to stop as it's such a waste of money.
Difficult to know where to start so if I go for £10.00 in January and see how I get on I'll know where to pitch it from then!
There's 2 of us, 2 kids (19 & 22 - so probably should class as adults, but don't act like it!), 2 big dogs (never feed them leftovers - the end results never that pleasant!) & 2 guinea pigs (they will eat until they triple in size - so a bit like me and DH!)
Looking forward to this challenge!,0 -
We have fallen slightly off the wagon over the last week or so....there's just SO much food been opened, and so much junk to fill up on....shameful really....but jolly nice
Note to self: get a grip0 -

I have a couple of apples that look like they are getting past their best, so will make spaghetti bake tonight for me and dh (will have leftovers for lunch tomorrow!!)....
2 tsp olive oil
1 finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic crushed
2 apples, cored and grated
1 tin tomatoes chopped
1 tsp fresh sage or 1/4 tsp dried
2 tbs tomato puree
8 oz wholemeal spaghetti
2 oz vegan cheese, grated
Heat oil, gently fry onion & garlic gently for 5 mins. Stir in apple, add tomatoes, puree and sage. Cover and simmer for 10mins, meanwhile, cook spaghetti in boiling water for approx 7 mins. Drain and mix with the tomato and apple sauce. Place in large casserole dish, sprinkle with the cheese and bake in oven 180/gas 4 for 20-25 minsMortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913

I just had a ham, mushroom and cream cheese with fig and walnut toasted sandwich. What a combination, but I didn't have to throw the sorry looking mushrooms away.Ninja Saving Turtle0 -

I didn't buy a Rolls Royce this year, or a luxury yacht, or a holiday home in Marbella...

I am at my DDs and in the fridge there is an almost complete celery and a lot of cherry tomato's both past their best Could I do something with them before she ends up binning them as I can see the glint in her eye at the moment .She is dreadful at binning stuff which makes my blood run cold at times.I was thinking perhaps celery and tom soup or something I need inspiration or it will end up in landfill :)she has onion and stock cubes in store0

Just back from the weekly shop (always the time when things get binned to make room for the new stuff).
The only waste was 3 very wrinkly satsumas - bought for 69p a bag so I'd guess at 20p worth.
So I'm up and running with the challenge again.
I've bought loads of fresh F&V so my mini challenge for the week is to use it all up.0 -
Someone please save me from peeling sprouts....
I bought a whole sack for economy - £5.99 (entertained 50 :eek:at Christmas) and have half a sack left!
Am sat here peeling them for the freezer :A(and have been peeling for over an hour now!) wishing I hadn't joined this particular challenge!
