Mortgages with online (repayment) access?

Sorry if this has already been posted but it's difficult to search.

Are there any mortgage lenders that allow you to have online access to your mortgage account AND make adhoc payments (not offset)?

I'm thinking 'no' as the whole point is that they make money from you borrowing the whole lending period but would be interested if there are any?

Thanks

Plenty of banks allow you to see your mortgage amount via online banking (although few allow you to see statements)

There are also plenty of banks (eg. HSBC) which allow you to make unlimited overpayments to your mortgage at no charge.

Yes, for example, HSBC, as I've already stated.

Providing you have the full account and bank details then its possible to make online payments at any time.

HSBC do - we have HSBC accounts and a mortgage and overpay online.

However, if you're looking for convenient access to make overpayments wherever you are, be aware that HSBC use a secure key for access to online banking. Little thing that looks like a calculator that generates a code you have to enter to log on. So you'd have to carry it around with you.
  • I used to be with Accord mortgages and they didn't offer online access. You could ring up the automated service and get a balance on the automated thingy. That used to annoy me as it was an 0845 number (I have since discovered "say no to 0845").

I swapped to HSBC and that is brilliant, you sign in using the calculator thingy and look at your balance anytime and make OP look at transactions etc.

I am a bit of a saddo, love looking at the balance longing to ee when it is paid in full!

What I like about HSBC is aswell, you can request to swap rates online. So when I hit a lower LTV % I swap to better rate. Currently on the 80% LTV, about £6k to go for the next one.
I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.
  • All my overpayments to Santander/Abbey are made online. You just need to contact your mortgage provider to get the sort code and account number to transfer the money to (usually a holding account) and you normally set the payment description to your mortgage reference.
  • Brilliant. Thanks everyone for their replies. Happy new year :)
