                    Martin,
Have just become aware of a situation arising in Scotland It involves professional footballers and it appears there has been an issue over the payment of their salaries. Apparently it is not just a matter of the salary being paid a couple of days late and its not just once.
I understand from information available on the net that the club play in maroon and they are not the Edinburgh Premier League Club whose home is at Easter Road.
Really I have two areas of concern firstly (i) how can this happen and (ii) do you think contracts of professional footballers have a condition which covers this form of late payment and secondly if the contracts of those involved do not have such a condition is there any default prosion in any employment law. Remember this is apparently happening in Scotland and they might do it differently up there.
Finally why my interest well I fear the survival prospects of my employers business are not rosy at the moment. Its a good business and has some good contracts with public bodies including Health Boards and Health Trusts problem they may be good at healing the sick but when it comes to paying their invoices on time the problem start.
If the business has to fold is there any protection in law for unpaid staff salaries there are 25 of us.
Just as importantly is there any laws or Directives that could help the boss because he really is one of the nicest people you could work for....
Sorry that this is such a long post but it may be a problem for manywho visit your site.
Many thanks and I just wsh I had registered long ago.

It happens because things go wrong in business - promised investment does not materialise, unexpected outgoings occur. It is certainly not unique to football, although I know of two English clubs that have experienced this sort of problem (and I don't doubt that several more have also).
I would recommend that you edit out the details of which club is involved, unless of course it is already public knowledge.0

If a business folds, then employees are paid first over other creditors.
If not enough money to do that, then claim from the Government, with the Redundancy Payment Office.
And with regards to the football club concerned - a quick google search reveals it is in the public domain. Third time since August that HMRC have taken the club to court for unpaid tax.0

Plymouth are another football club in financial trouble. That's widely known so not a little secret and clear to see on the BBC website. I suspect most are staying though purely in the hope of getting a contract elsewhere, somewhere that will be able to pay them.0
