You are possibly referring to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle? Trust you to bring up wave-particle duality so soon after Christmas!

That's easy for you to say, :).
However don't you think that's what the OP has, he's looking at a file and by checking, it's automatically updating the 'modified' date?

p.s. was also going to mention Shrodinger, our favourite at work.
    Move along, nothing to see.

It would update the File Accessed date/time, but the File Modified date/time shouldn't be touched.

And of Schrödinger - they speak of little else in the pubs of Exeter!

The plot deepens, here are some screen shots.

The Date Accessed is also changing but not in quite same way as Date Modified.

    Of the shortcuts updated today:
the updated Date Modified = updated Date Accessed = today

    Of the shortcuts updated yesterday:
    updated Date Modified = yesterday
    updated Date Accessed =today

Of the shortcuts updated few weeks ago:
updated Date Modified = few weeks ago
    updated Date Accessed =yesterday
