Hi all,
This morning I thought it would be nice to take dd to the market on the way to school as we fancied fish pie.
 2lb of fish (cod, salmon etc) for £9 and this was on special offer:eek:
Now I've not been for a long time so was shocked. This equates to almost 1/5th of my weekly budget. We have been eating fish, but usually the cheaper stuff from Mr T - yes, I know, rubbish compared to fresh! My question is where to get good quality fish and a reasonable price....or was that a reasonable price?
Thanks in advance.New Mantra: I must not visit MSE until after I've completed all my chores!!!!!0 -
Having moved to Germany last year, I'm Gobsmacked by the difference in supermarket costs. Here you can buy 24 rolls of Charmin toilet paper for Euros 6.66 (approx £4.44) and Bounty kitchen rolls 16 rolls for euros 5.99 (approx £4) this sort of saving applies across the range in Supermarkets. Admittedly you don't get bag packing helpers or advisors at the door but your not paying for them either !! (and they have'nt got a Martin Lewis either which is why I still subscribe to the site) Keep up the great work.

Well I'm a week into the month without the supermarket and am doing quite well! I did worry at the beginning of the week that we'd done the wrong thing, being as the cupboard's and fridge/freezer were not too full to start with! But we've managed OK and yesterday was market day in town and so I stocked up on potatoes, eggs and cheese. The cheese was a bit expensive, but the otehr vegtables were quite reasonable. This should hopefully last us until we go to the Farmers Market next weekend, when we can stock up on meat, but if we can't wait there are 2 butchers in the town, which we could use if things get so desparate! But I'm really hoping we can use up some ouf our storecupboard and make space in the freezer!Official DFW Nerd Club #20  Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

I went to the market yesterday with good intensions of getting some fruit, but I still have my brainwashed head on when it comes to the look of fruit. I looked on 4 fruit and veg stalls and only bought a cauilflower for 29p. I dunno what it is with me when it comes to fruit,I`m fine with the veg and meat from the butchers, but I`m finding fruit my only downfall.
Any tips on how to overcome my market fruit fear?Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -

Oherwise doing quite well now, have managed to source nearly everything local (so far), have even found a shop that sells 4pt cartons of local milk at a reasonable price. Unfortunately it's 7 miles away from home, but I will be in that village once a month from now on, so can buy it then - it's a start! He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
