My uncle works in music...I will be working on a 12 month contract with him

Firefox, pay attention, she's going to be working with her uncle and getting real experience on the job. No, she doesn't need to go to college to talk about general business in the abstract, she's going to be getting specific hands on work in the field under the guidance of her uncle. Doing it, not just talking about it.

You've gone off at a tangent and missed the point. Your negativity is redundant and inappropriate.
    OP

you need to go to college and study a business course. Probably part time would be enough.

Without this backup I fear you would get swallowed alive as soon as you started pitching your business (on your own and without your parents contacts and experience)

Dont; be in such a rush to own your own business till you have experienced as much as possible about employment/business working for others.

You do, albeit not on purpose, come across as a bit niave. And the business world is not a place to be timid in.We are talking about MONEY, their is very little love lost in a business transaction.

Enjoy earning good money whilst you are, I hope you aren;t getting greedy for more when what you have is admirable enough.

    :)

    goodz,

if the OP can't fight their own battles they won't get far in business.

When exactly did they ask you to white knight for them? I can't see that post. Put down the armour and the shield. Thet already have a mum and an uncle protecting them, best they get a taste of real world opinions!

No, gratuitous unpleasantness and negativity from you is inappropriate and doubly so to do it to a young girl doing her very first posts here. As an experienced poster you should know better than to give a noob a hard time, unnecessarily, spuriously. They're not just sport for you to prod with a shoity stick you know. Tsk tsk, not good enough. You're supposed to encourage people, not just slap them down.

You're not supposed to encourage people about to do stupid things!!

And OP *does* need to talk to a business advisor, and does need a bit of a reality check.

And I have no intention of replying to you again, you aren't my dad, I'm not 12, and you don't get to tell me how to post! Onto ignore you go.

  • I thought my post was truthful and to the point. I only stated facts as I see it. One post here is superb as it sums up just how hard going into business is. I will post as I see fit and nothing will change me. The truth hurts sometimes but thats life.

I often try to discourage people from entering business sometimes as I know the reality of it. Yes anybody can do it, but "anybody" should not be interpreted as everybody who tries it has a good chance of suceeding. in fact the statistics show that most people who try it fail.

I suppose if you come here asking for very general advice such as "do you think this is a good idea", it suggests that you have not the drive to really find out for yourself the hard way. You need this sort of drive to be sucessful in any kind of business. There are aspects of this lack of confidence in the OP's post.

In saying this, the OP has actually a lot going for them. They are prepared to work long hours at the minute and actually get paid an OKish wage so that they can save a little money. Also £15 per hour in this new job is a decent wage as it appears that there will be no overheads. Maybe they have a future, but perhaps ask more specific questions the next time perhaps.

PS. What is a "maternity contract". is it covering for someone on maternity leave? If it is then how is it going to last one year ?

You really are just such an unpleasant person, aren't you just! Yuk! Shame on you!

There's nothing at all stupid about what she's suggesting, on the contrary, she's being entirely positive and displaying a lot of achievement and maturity. She's sensibly enquiring about getting more information and suggestions, as all sensible business people do. She should go far and do very well with her hard work attitude and keenness to learn. So unlike you with your sneery negativity.

You really need to take a good long look in the mirror and make a significant improvement to your appalling attitude problem.

No, you were just being rude, sneery and unpleasant. Completely gratuitously so. Not at all helpful, just nasty and negative. To a new young poster as well, dreadful. Shame on you.

yes. some women do take a year off, plus handover/ training time each end. So it's possible.
