Huh? What distinguishes bankers' desires from that of, say, recruitment managers or milkmen?!

I imagine that, ultimately, the desire to spend time with the family, have a good standard of living, and the ability to indulge in the general consumerist whims of a person living in our society are fairly universal...

O dear - no christmas spirit!

What if the airports grind to a halt (again)- surely that would be the biggest no-no..

Recruitment Management and Milk Distribution are not currently Growth Industries...

So the "biggest no no" to wish you can avoid is airport closure?! Surely being struck down dead by a bolt of lightning would be a bigger no-no?

Okay... now you've really got me. You're implying that banking is a growth industry... Is it? And how does the growth of the industry you work in affect your wishes? Wouldn't (almost) everyone ultimately want the same thing - good friends, happy families and time to spend with them, good health, prosperity and all that malarky...?

If you think that the welfare state provides good friends, happy families, time to spend with them, good health and prosperity then you are very confused indeed. And even more confused if you think that any welfare state is impossible.

And don't blame me if this discussion is boring - you started it! :rotfl:

Ah well, have a jolly Chistmas...

To be allowed to get on with my life without being vilified for my job title?

    Don't worry esuhi.

The rest of MSE feels the same way. Trucker T seems to live in a world of his own, coming out now and again with aphorisms he thinks are pearls or wisdom but that leave everyone else completely baffled.

Bigger bonuses, more dancing girls, a crash in the cost of champagne (not that you'd actually know how much it costs), a law saying all female staff must be attractive and topless in the workplace.

I think that covers the entire thinking repertoire of a banker.

Based in the ones I know - a landmark court case entitling divorced bankers' wives to a new statutory £30 a week instead of pretty much half of everything. Expect a sudden boom in weddings between 30-something bankers and voluptuous secretaries and wholesale dumping of average-looking wives taken on in mid-late 20s (when only modestly well off) to give impressions of being a solid family man
    FACT.

That the council house chavs and great unwashed / uneducated actually knew what a banker was, did and actually was paid, rather than simply gorging on the diatribe spewed by the tabloid press.

I'd also remove the vote from these people and deport them to an independent Scotland (or Ireland or Wales).
