Christmas alone

If you could spend Christmas alone what would you do?

This year I will be on my own - the last few years I have hosted, done duty visits, arranged big family get togethers etc etc so this year we are all going to do our own thing and although I've been invited to friends and relatives have decided that my own thing is to do something by myself. As I live alone and also mostly work from home I want to get away from the house (and computer) and am going to walk right round the local reservoir with the dog and have a picnic at the waters edge. I can't wait!

But what would you do? Obviously it has to be either moneysaving or cost very little. Mine will be the cost of the petrol to travel 4 miles there and back.

Sounds like you've got it well planned and good for you -you've done your fair share over the years and deserve to have some ''me time''.
This is the first year for I don't know how long that it'll just be me and OH. In the past we've fostered teenagers so the house has been filled with then and their friends, our kids and family and due to illness we couldn't have coped with a houseful this year anyway. But that aside, we're both looking forward to it. We can eat what we like, when we like, same with t.v., I've books to read, knitting and sewing to do, we can pay board games we haven't done for ages.............walk to the local pub - couldn't manage further than that - and generally relax and reflect on the year.

Good luck and have a fabulous time:T
    Happy Christmas:)

  • I'll be on my own for a couple of hours tomorrow when the kids see their dad. I'll tidy up a bit, make myself a coffee, and then sit down and watch TV, listen to carols, or read a book and just relax for a bit. Later on, when I've picked the kids up, I'll drive up to my sister's for the rest of the day - she's plating up a Christmas dinner for me, and one for my dauughter who is working a late shift.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

I'd be happy with baked beans on toast and dozing in front of the telly with a roaring fire in the grate.

What a heavenly thought :D I would have a fabulous day starting with a delicious breakfast of croissants and danish pastries with fresh orange. Then I would open any gifts I had stored under my tree. Once I had done that I would go for a long and refreshing walk before coming home to something carb based smothered in cheese for lunch.

The afternoon would be spent crocheting and watching bad TV before having profiteroles for dinner :o with a side serving of Morrisons chocolate cheesecake (divine!). Finally to round off the day I would have a long and relaxing bath with a good vampire fiction book. New PJs and a chai latte would round off the day.

Oh well family squabbles and too much turkey it is for me this year but maybe one day ..............

It's just me and my OH this year and we're just chilling out. Christmas dinner, The Snowman at 2:30 then relaxing while eating too much chocolate :D

  • I'm alone today!

I stayed up until 4am for no real reason, watching Christmas movies and eating Bailey's Ice Cream.

Got up at 10am and walked down to church, was a lovely service, then came back, spoke to some family on Skype which was nice.

Then made a Spinach Canalonni for Christmas dinner (Veggie, on Slimming World), which is still in the oven.

I have lots of movies lined up to watch and then having a bit of 'buffet' food later on.

Very quiet but very stress free. I like the idea of walking but I don't have a dog, would have loved to go for a quiet walk but not too confident to go into the countryside alone.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Just me and OH today, no turkey but his favourite dinner and loads of veggies and roasties for just for me. Raspberry Panna Cotta from M & S and to finish off a decent coffee. Lovely!! OH is having a snooze so some quiet time for me and the big furry one.

Have a happy and peaceful Christmas, everyone and those on your own toast those that are putting up with people they just don't want to spend Christmas with........ now that's sad, really sad.

  • Well, my day is almost over - my daughter is due in from work at 10pm, when we will have our Christmas dinner together. It has been a peaceful day, even the parts when the kids have been with me :). The boys are now in bed, shattered after a busy and exciting day. - or more precisely, the oldest is in bed, and the youngest has opted to stay at his grandparents tonight because dad is staying there.

I had a pleasant couple of hours alone. I walked down to my mum's to see to the cat when the kids went to their grandparents to see their dad. My daughter passed her driving test last month, so I didn't even have to drive them there. The cat was playful and wanted lots of attention, so I didn't get to see all of the Eucharist service on TV, but I kept george happy (that's the cat :))

After the boys were returned home by their dad, I took them to my sister's, where they had a lovely time with their cousins and I had a natter with my sister. My nephew had taken his own money to get presents for my kids - the first time he has done this, and very thoughtful for an 11 year old boy.

We played Headbands together, and were surprised at how my older son picked it up - he has Down's syndrome, and we didn't think he would understand. How wrong we were :rotfl:. After playing, he just kept saying 'Again, again'.

Then home and a quiet coffee after putting my son to bed - he's exhausted, so went straight to sleep, despite the excitement. Soon be time for my Christmas dinner, then bed for me as well.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas Day xxx

Yes hope evryone had a good day - and that if people were alone it doesn't mean that they were lonely - it is good to be able to enjoy one's own company.
