Mortgage termniation payments

I have read the thread regarding the mortgage exit fees so I won’t be asking about that here.
I have just redeemed a mortgage with the Portman Building Society and was surprised to see interest charges applied on the redemption statement.
I checked my first mortgage statement from 1996. The advance was provided on the 2/9/96 and the first 2 months interest payments were rolled into one and taken on the 7th October.
I redeemed the mortgage on 1st Feb 2007 (day after expiry of tie in period). The mortgage redemption statement sent to the Solicitors included interest until 1st Feb 2007 and was anotated with "Last payment allowed for 05 January 2007"
I will be querying this with the Portman as i am quite certain that a redemption statement I had received from them during January did not include these interest fees.
Has anyone else come across anything similar?
