I think you're quoting the Employer NI contribution as well as your own. Your NI may not be too far out .....
He's only paying NI because of uneven pay - on £558 per month he wouldn't pay any NI.
it's the tax that looks odd if the Code is cumulative.

On £5026 (allowance £6055) at the 75% point (9 months out of 12) of the tax year I would expect :

    £5026 less personal allowance £4541 = £485 taxable at 20% = £97 tax due.

But you appear to have paid £523.99

A quiet word with your payroll people after Christmas might throw some light?

Yes the tax does look too high - OP are you sure that your tax code doesn't have an M1 at the end? Then it's be non-cumlative like NI, but unlike NI you will be able to claim it back.

I dont think they can spread the pay. Its a complicated thing. I will speak to payroll though after xmas and see what they can do. As long as I havent overpaid I guess its ok. The tax is a mess. Ill be onto HMRC for a rebate asap. They cant deal with 2 tax codes - but it may be my payroll at fault. Will see.

Thank you for all fo your advise btw everyone ;)

You haven't given the full detail (for Job 2). But they've been split between the 2 x jobs .......... and look close to OK.

They should add up to 747. So if job 1 is 605L ...... the other should be 142L?

But on the 1st job ...... you do appear to be overpaying tax for no obvious reason. Hence the suggestion for a word with payroll .... who may be able to do the Eureka bit?

it's very difficult to see how you could be paying so much tax or so much NI

if you wish, it would help is your could post up the full figures for each month for job 1 starting with April 2011 so we could see when things started to go wrong
    i.e gross pay
    pension
    tax
    NI
    taxcode
    take home
