Hi,
Can someone plse confirm if you can get free international channels like the ones included in the sky freeview.......our sky box is faulty now. I want to know before I go out and waste money on a freeview box that does not show all free channels like sky! I do not wish to pay a monthly subscription to sky, so hence the question! Thanks in advance!

No, roseydosey, a freeview box won't get you all the Sky channels or other international ones. You get Sky News, Sky Sports News and Sky Three ... and no international ones.
The only channels you can get are these: http://www.freeview.co.uk/channels/?__SITE=public&p[0]=channels ... but there's a fair choice :-)0 -
You can get free to air international channels via a satellite dish (your existing sky dish should be large enough) and a satellite receiver. U'd need advice as to which direction to point the dish towards (e.g. the astra satellite) However, you wouldn't be able to receive freeview channels as well. For this, you'd need a separate freeview box.

Hi
You will get most of the channels on a freeview box, the ones you wont receive are things like wine channel, baby channel, true movies, and a couple of others, but you will get other channels such as ABC and E4 so it balances out, don't forget to check that you are in an area that can receive digital freeview, alternativly you could look at
https://www.bigdishsat.com or https://www.lyngsat.com, these sites will give you all the channel infor you need. HTH xxxxMake it happen (old signature)

On Freeview you don't get things like Paramount Comedy, Nickelodeon, Sky1, Disney, Sci-Fi, Hallmark, Living, TCM, Bravo, Fx, Jetix etc etc.
But then you don't have to pay a monthly subscription chargeWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
Are you with FreeSat from Sky at the moment then? But your box has broken? If that's the case I would switch to a freeview box. They are so cheap now (around £20) and the channels that you get are excellent. Compared to the £150 for FreeSat, which has more channels but they're not all that good, freeview is much better value. You might get some techier advice from the 'I wanna' board (I think that's what it's called, lol!).0

From the Original Poster, if your Sky Box is faulty but your Sky Card and Dish (including alignment) are OK, then I would suggest speaking to your local "independent" electrical store or local Sky installer.
If they have any 2nd hand boxes available (usually £15-£25), then all you need to do is plug them in, put your old Sky card in and off you go.
Alternatively look on Ebay for Sky Digital decoder boxes.0 -
