Depo complications - opinion needed.

I have been on the depo injection for 3-4 years and usually I will at most have a bit of discharge and cramping at 'that time of the month' but usually I have nothing.

I had a tummy bug consisting of vomiting and diarrhea over the weekend and was told it would not affect the depo injection; however today I have had tummy cramps with a bit of bleeding and a few clots (sorry for the info) it isn't heavy and can only see the blood when I wipe after going to the toilet.

The last time this happened was about 3 weeks after the Lletz treatment I had.

3 weeks ago the condom split while with someone I was seeing and he did 'you know' inside me, I couldn't have gotten pregnant could I? this is just a mini period?

Has the tummy bug brought this on or do you think the stress of being ill has slightly altered my hormones?

Anyone else experienced this while on the depo?

I am single but I'm worried just in case Santa sends me something, better safe than sorry.

I better not be bloody pregnant lol but then if I was I'm not now as I'm bleeding.

It has happened before, last time I was stressed so maybe that is the cause?

Also just remembered, If I get cramping it is usually a few weeks after the jab....I had my last on 23rd Nov.

Best thing to do is take a test hun :)

My periods come and go (annoyingly, side effect of my pill) and i haven't had a period since october and was feeling very paranoid. 3 tests later (all negative) and i'm feeling a bit more reassured :) i know it can be really nerve wracking but if you're stressing that may be affecting them too

I had the same when I was on the depo, I was fine for a long time and then I had what you describe. I was told it was normal for there to be some occasional bleeding, but I don't know if this sickness bug affects it so I would take a test if you are worried.
  • Sickness bugs affect the absorption of the Pill in the digestive system. Not the absorption of a drug in the muscle. So I wouldn't panic on that account.

But if the only thing that will reassure you is a negative test, then get one from the pound shop.

I would suggest going to the doctor for advice rather than asking people on a forum!

I was on the depo for around six years and in the last two had no end of problems with constant bleeding. The doctors did every test I can think of (scans, pregnancy tests, colposcopy, smears etc) which all came back fine so they advised it was just 'one of those things' and to change contraception.

Anyway, the point is, everyone is different. It could be a sign of a problem or it could be something like what happened to me. But you won't know unless you go to the doctor.
