    Woohoo!!!

Look how much butter I've made (and buttermilk of course!):

Can't believe it! This doesn't even include the virgin batch from last night. Reckon I've got 6 months worth!

(The wine glass is so you can gauge the size of the whopping bowls!)

Seriously fascinated with the butter churning pictures & tales! How much cream do you need to make a average size block & how much cream have u used for that little butter mountain? Also what does it mean when you say rinse it & add salt, do you wash it?

Yep, I've heard that Aberdeen is full of back alleys, but I'll have to take your word for the rest. Couldn't you just get a room, I've heard they are not overly expensive way up north?:rotfl::rotfl:

Jumblejack, that is blinking brilliant. How much cream did you need to make all that butter? They had loads of 10p double cream in my Tesco the other day but I didn't buy any because I didn't think I woud use it. I am so impressed with that butter. FANTASTIC.

Well I will show you how many cartons are destined for the recycle bin....

    photo-6.jpg?t=1325449465

They have made 20 blocks of butter for the table, 10 knobs of butter for baking (equivalent of 5 blocks-last nights batch) 5 pints of buttermilk

That is at least £25 of butter if you reckon £1 a block on offer. That's without considering the cost of the milk.

The cartons cost me £3.40 but only cos most of the cream I got was 20p a tub. Had I got em all tonight it would have cost a fraction of that as the huge tubs were 10p each.

I am sooooo doing it again. Completely thrifty endeavour which fills you with a sense of pride!

I know Maesy very well! Yes, not much in Y5trad but I did get the Play Doh and the Parioli tinned tomatoes and a few other things from there. The Metro, in the town where there is a castle, wouldn't let me buy the jelly and custard though!

Where are the scanners in r*s*a, please?

there is 1 in the bedding isle
another in clothing (but not always working)
and the other in along the isle with the snacks and bottled water hth:)

ive had quite alot from there,
moon sand, beans, the tomatoes, tco, mingles, bedding etc

Also they are pretty good for dtd,
the express in bl*ckw00d was pretty good for smarties and the mint areos to, staff were great there :j

For the butter - I popped 2 of the tubs into a big bowl and whisk on high until the whisks are almost "seized" and you think what the hell its all gone wrong, but a minute later it suddenly goes all "slack" (Stop tittering at the back!!") add salt if needed now (dont add salt if freezing) quickly turn off the whisk and drain the liquid off (its buttermilk if you want to use it for other things) then add about half a mug of ice cold water either whisk (be careful as its very splattery) or kneed do this 3-4 times until the water isnt milky then squeeze the water out and freeze/pop in the fridge

    Simplez :)

Bumping this as a few have asked

500ml of double cream gave around ¾lb butter
