Well to bypass a lot of the muffin top is easy, just don't have jeans that cut in places you have a higher body fat (or "love handles" as they are more well known). High waisted jeans would be a better option: jeans that finish on the waist and not the hip.

Next would be to get a pair that fitted you. Everyone is different and whats worse is that your body shape changes as you age- even without you doing the normal such as having kids or getting an injury or somethine else life changing. I used to fit perfectly in Topshop jeans but now the fact the waist is too narrow compared to the hips and the thighs on my legs are chunkier at the bottom then normal yet slimmer then at the top..etc I can no longer fit Topshop jeans unless I don't care about them looking baaad!

Go to a few shops, try on jeans in different stores, take photos, take notes get an assistant to offer advice on how they fit/if they fit. If you can, drag alone a friend to give you honest advice- (though sometimes relatives can be better at doing this IMO)

And never assume you've found your perfect pair, in 5 or 10 years time your shape will have changed again and weather or not those same jeans fit as well is another story.
  • I agree with Next as they always have loads of styles. If you find a comfy pair I'd recommend buying a few pairs. I found my most comfy jeans in Next and didn't buy another pair which I regret now (I'm still wearing them 4/5 years later, but they're going a bit baggy).

I recently bought Topshop's Leigh jeans which are incredibly comfortable. Their Baxter jeans get good reviews too.
  • I have the same problem.

My 'solution' is to dedicate a whole day to trying on jeans. Wear something easy to take off and back on again in all the changing rooms!

It has always taken me at least 14 trying ons. My record is 31 pairs!!
  • If you can afford them, I would recommend Not Your Daughters Jeans. They are specifically designed to avoid this problem!

I used to try on loads of pairs and end up with some that were "best of the bunch but not quite right"
tried the per una ones this year and the fit is really lovely and the waist high enough to keep all the flabby bits in check

lol: just to verify, I wasn't saying Next jeans (I've never tried them, I can't vouch for them) I think you skim-read OneYorkshireLass...?

I was saying try many stores as everyone has a different shape- if we didn't shopping would be a lot lot easier and we'd all wear the same brand :)

Owain Moneysaver, dungarees aren't in right now, but check back in few years, you never know! Its the Playsuit at the monent (think: boilers suit or as others have described, babygro but with chinzy patterns) apparently they are due to stick around from last season. Not jeans though and hard to pass off unless your very modelesque or 17-22.

I have some next ones I like. Soft so dont dig in anywhere and high enough so to avoid the feeling of loosing them too. Heard a lot about M&S being good for fitting differing shapes.
The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T
