Can't find a dessert!

Hi all

I am hosting Christmas day at my house for myself, hubbie, dd (5), my dad, brother and sister. I would normally do a christmas pudding as dessert, but this year, my dad is on radiotherapy and he has been told to avoid any kind of fruit cakes/puddings/mince pies also anything with nuts or peel in as it will make symptoms worse. He isn't very happy about it lol! Oh and he can't have fruit such as berries etc..

My dad isn't a chocolate person either and I have no idea what I can make for dessert on Christmas day now!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Especially if they can be made on Christmas eve! Oh- he doesn't like ice cream either! I found a great spiced ice recipe too!

Thanks in advance! i love this board so much, you guys are very inspirational!:T

Cheesecake, that way you can add fruit or icecream to it for the other guests.

Treacle tart can look lovely homemade with lattice pastry on top?
Or a Towering Lemon Meringue pie?
Or a steamed suet syrup sponge?

    Mmmmmmmmmmmm:D

Sorry to hear about your Dad and I wish him well with his treatment.

What about a trifle? So simple to make. and you don't need to add fruit to it, and make it to reflect everyone's tastes.

Mandarin and lemon is a good choice. My own favourites are pear and white chocolate, and my own black-forest concoction...clearly not for your Dad though.

ETA: on reflection, you really are stuck for choice around the whole menu, as according to national guidance, creamy foods should also be avoided. Perhaps a plain jelly and a different dessert for everyone else?

Ginger sponge cake. served with custard.
    Trifle
Orange sponge cake, made with orange juice, no peel with orange icing on the top. Made this myself last year and it was delicious!

I watched a show last night called Perfect Christmas on GoodFood Channel and they made a choux bun tower, it looked yummy!! And you could buy unfilled profiteroles and Baileys cream so really easy!

They also have a toffee pavalova on there and there is a hole section of christmas recipes here

I'd do a nice vanilla cheesecake and top it with caremelised apple slices (melt butter and sugar together in a pan with some sliced eating apples, cook until the sauce caremelises and use and extra sauce to drizzle over when serving).
  • Good luck to your Dad with his treatment, hope he's soon on the mend.
I made a scrummy bread and butter pudding the other night, you could leave out the sultanas and add plenty of nutmeg or cinnamon.

I'dgo the cheesecake route -and have it as DIY toppings (fruit, chocolate sauce even hundred and thousands whatever different people like)-which is fun for the kids and your Dad can join in the game too
