holiday entitlement

hi folks need some advice

i get 28 days holiday including public holidays my question is that my company say thay can allocate 10 days of my holidays to be taken at thier convienience i.e during quiet periods of buisness i also work most of the public holidays anyway with the exeption of christmas which i point blank refuse to work.
are my employers right. BTW i work as a coach driver incase this makes a difference

Yes the employer can say that you must take holiday at certain times. And no, you don't have any right - unless it is in your contract - to refuse to work any day of the year and that includes Christmas day.

Unless your contract says otherwise (and even then they can take steps to change it) they can tell you when you must take your holidays.

Strictly speaking you don't have the right to "point blank" refuse to work Christmas.

Just to add to the above, your employer can choose when you take any or all of your holidays as long as they give the correct notice of at least twice as long as the leave ie, if they want you to have 1 week off then they must give you 2 weeks notice.

Just be prepared with what may happen should you get asked and refuse to work it though.
