Help needed with usb

Can anyone tell me if I can buy a usb card for an old computer I have. It has 128 mg ram and runs ME. I wanted to plug the broadband modem into it. I do have one but everytime I install it the pc freezes or the monitor won't work

Cheers
Kate

Thanks for the reply but I can't get on the internet without installing the usb thing. I wondered if the card needed more ram or something to run?

Many USB devices have issues with the VIA chipset used by some manufacturers, sometimes they can be resolved by installing an updated driver for the mainboard chipset.

You'd have to know the make/model of mainboard to check in most cases.

It's pain in the butt. It could be the problem of confliction between ME and USB, or hardware problem.

My suggestion is to eliminate each factor one by one.

Check your system board chipset and see if the chipset vendor has any USB driver updates.
Also, check in Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, and select the PCI to USB controller
(not the Root Hub) and select Properties. check up the chipset and its vendor.
The Windows ME USB drivers support all the newer chipsets, but not the very early faulty ones. So make sure yours is not that "old".

In this case you might could try installing a PCI USB card and see if that works.
