A question regarding a xmas gift!

Thankyou everyone for your advice Re the xmas gifts, I must say that when I went into work yesterday I was given "THE ENVELOPE" by a certain client and after already being instructed the day before by the office I turned it over to the office and will expect that they would explain to the client that we are not allowed to accept a gift of cash, I didn't open my envelope but all the other carers opened theirs at the office and had £20 each, so must have been a good chunk of change for the lady to of spent.
When I went in to her today, the office had obviously called her and explained as she was quite put out about it, however we opted for a chockie and nice chat, so was ok with all in the end.
I did consider telling the client that I couldn't have it and not take the envelope, but the boot being on the other foot could of meant that she may have forgotten that I hadn't taken it and then I wouldn't have a leg to stand on!!!
So now I do understand why and the potential implications on both side.... Merry Xmas all ThriftkittenThriftkitten

They should have a clear policy on this. Have you not been given this?
FWIW I think it's for the best as things can get very muddled for you and the client - I've seen it happen and it's not good for anyone involved.0

I do think that this has been handled badly and you should have already been aware that accepting cash is definitely not acceptable. It can foster a bad feeling with carers who don't have clients who are able to be generous and leaves the client open to coercion.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

We do not accept gifts. We just take them.0

Offensive. Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0

So what happens to the cash then?
I work in the private sector and we are not allowed gifts, there are very strong corruption and bribery policies in place. If we get gifts, they go in a raffle where tickets are sold and money donated to charity.0

I work in the public sector. We sometimes get boxes of biscuits or cakes given to us. We eat them! I'm sure the patients would be horrified if they thought we'd have to give them up for a raffle or somesuch. It's very kind of them to think of us and we take gifts in the spirit in which they are given.0
