The level of "sales" pre Xmas do appear to be more significant than in previous years. Do you think the recession may have a connection?0

In my experience, People are desperate to sell this time of year.0 -
I cant remember ever seeing sales like this:
I can remember ( as you do) when you buy some slippers for someone or a box set of socks 'these will be half price next week' in previous years however, these bargains are here already.
Companies that I have never seen before do 3 for 2 on gifts were doing them back in November, the likes of accessorize as opposed to just boots doing 3 for 2s. 60% off at the Gap is clearance prices. The house of fraser sale is immense, I just wish I had more to spend, garments usually 200 quid just 50 quid before Xmas.
Sorry I have not seen any empty shelves whatsoever in the hot bed that is london, far from it.
However, I have seen a number of shops closing down including Howies on Carnaby St. ( everything 50% off)
If its not sold now, it wont be sold after Christmas so I think post Xmas there will be some more bargains to be had, and sadly some more closing down sales. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Closing down sales are good news.
It is often the result of either bad management or high rents.
Either way, it is part of the rebalancing of the economy away from debt-fuelled consumption and towards more sustainable business models.

I have seen a lot more sales in Nottingham this year. Some places have perenially had stuff marked down. Lots of 'snap' one weekly only ones too, and the standard sale times you'd expect seem to drag on for far longer than you would have expected 2-3 years ago.Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there.

I got really wound up with a shop manager a few weeks ago. We were in the market for some speakers for our TV. There was a particular make/model we were interested in and we'd arranged to go in for a demo. RRP was £299 which is what the shop had been selling them for. I knew in advance that another shop who have a physical shop and a website were doing them for £249.
The day before we went in for the demo, they were put on clearance at the shop we were going to. Ex-display sets only, for £239. Had the demo, liked them, the ex-display ones were in reasonable nick (though extremely dusty).
Explained that we could get them brand new for £249 so £239 for ex-display was a bit too much. The manager turned sniffy, asked for the website where we'd seen them and phoned the shop. He asked the other shop if that was really their price, if they were new and boxed, and how many they had. He then had a long conflab with his colleague and played with his calculator. He offered to sell us the ex-display ones for £230. I (generously I thought) offered him £220 to take his dusty ex-display set away there and then (I didn't put it like that). He turned it down.
Gave up and walked out having spent an hour in the shop and ordered from the other place. Felt like asking if he knew there was a recession on.0 -
I'm glad you have looked at all my posts today - I haven't looked at any of yours, just this rubbish one.
