Renewable requirements for new build

Options
Morning, does anyone know that the renewable energy requirements are for new build? Must they have some type of solar generation? I guess the insulation will have to be very high....

Thanks

There is no mandatory requirement to incorporate renewable energy into a new build. All new build houses must be built in accordance with a SAP calculation which predicts the energy usage of the house. To comply the house must achieve a minimum rating. Including renewable would up the rating and allow you to cut down on insulation elsewhere.

You'll generally need some sort of renewable, only other way to gain sap is very expensive windows

You are best to have a massive amount of insulation.

You can have an air sourced heat pump.

Not necessarily, although some builders/developers are happy to pay extra for renewables rather than build houses properly...

Very important for it to be built properly in order to pass the air tightness test, which is critical in achieving a compliant energy calculation. Good insulation and build quality can avoid need for renewables
