Light Bulb Moment!

Hi All, I feel liberated, I have just stuck down last envelope of letter to creditors asking them to hold action whislt our DMP is progressed and then had a little ritual of cutting up all our credit and store cards and by do i feel back in control!

The only thing I am worried about is lots of phone calls, we are entering month when we will default on payments for the frist time as up until now we have made all payment which is why our debt has just got bigger and bigger now total of £86k!

One creditor (Alliance & Leicester) as been calling us every half hour from 9am to about 8pm since the date the last payment was due - are they allowed to do this, it is very intimidating. Any advice?

now i may be wrong in this but i think you are allowed for all correspondance to be by post ...i'm sure somene with better knowledge will be on soon though
  • Now i dont know the ins and outs BUT they are not allowed to harrass you and i woudl think ringing every half hour fits into that category. :p

i would advice giving citizens advice or CCCS a ring and asking them what is harrasment. The banks have a finanical code they have to abide by and arent allow to be seen to intimidate or bully you.

If they wont stop - unplug the phone or simply explain you wont be taking their calls anymore. Be strong - you cant give them what you dont have and it will all stop soon. In my experience the calls stopped the month the DMP started.

We did have a problem with Abbey calling incessantly but my OH explained that someone was calling 20 times a day  and they put a note on the system and the calls stopped. Often i think there is just a call sheet and everyone bundles on and calls and doesnt read the notes. Be calm and if they are rude just hang up on them or explain you are going to report them to the financial authority for harassment - i would think they will stop.

Best thing - seek advice from the professionals - CCCS or CB.:o

    Good Luck x

Citizen's advice were fab when I was getting informtion for my mum. They might be able to help regarding what is and isn't allowed in terms of calling you up. Good luck.
