Boxing Day ham question

Hi
I am having all the family over to me on Boxing Day, and usually do a buffet with lots of party food. This year, I have decided to do a cooked ham, sausages, salad, garlic roasted potatoes, cheese board etc., for a change.
I have decided on James Martin's ham recipe (after much deliberation as I've never cooked ham:o).
Should I cook it on Boxing Day morning, or would it be better to do it on Xmas Eve?
Really would appreciate any help:j

I would do it on xmas eve- it will keep for about a week once cooked and that way you wont be giving yourself too much to do when you are expecting your guests. i'm doing mine on xmas eve

Sales, boots, charity shops, ebay- why would anyone ever pay full price for anything??!0 -
If you're doing ham I thoroughly recommend Nigella's sweetcorn pudding to go with it - very easy and totally scrummy. And it will be fine to cook the ham on Xmas Eve.0

Thanks for the replies - I will definitely cook on Xmas Eve and I'll look up the sweetcorn pud recipe!
Any recommendations as to the best place to buy the ham? I was thinking of maybe giving Aldi a go?0 -
I got a Huuuuuge ham half price in morrisons. i always get mine from there and its always lovely. I would also recommend cooking it xmas eve, as well as saving a job on boxing day it will also carve better once its been chilled than if it was still slightly warm from cooking on the day.0

Hi, I have always thought of gammon joints as the uncooked ham and once cooked it's called ham, sure one of the tv chefs confirmed this the other day. I have a massive unsmoked gammon joint in the fridge which Tesco sent me on a price match, it is double the size I ordered, so I am looking for ideas to use it all up now! Will be slow cooking it first and finishing it off in the oven.0
