Is taxman likely to be sympathetic in case of separation?

in Cutting tax
My husband's contract finished and after some time he was able to find work in another country. He is living permanently abroad - paying tax, mortgage and all other bills. He is visiting this country about twice per annum. We have a fifteen year old son who is at school. Although we are separated geographically, our marriage is intact. Is this situation likely to affect my tax status?
Thanks

Being married has had no effect on your tax position since 1990 unless, of course, either of you are claiming age related allowances for the over 65's.0

Hello there
Did your husband complete a P85 when he left the UK? This is a form sent in to HMRC to tell them you have left the tountry. If he had any earnings in the tax year he left, paying PAYE, he may also be due a refund.0 -
What exactly do you mean by tax status? Do you mean your income if you are thinking of claiming tax credits, housing benefit etc? If you are married even though living in different countries, I think you would be treated as a couple in terms of your income (if you have specific queries, you could try the benefits board for advice). In terms of income tax, it is your husband's tax status that is more likely to be complicated, and he needs to be sure that he is paying the right amount of money to the right tax man! What country is he working in?0

Thank you for your replies. Sorry for the delay in responding.
My husband did notify HMRC that he had moved and is awaiting a tax rebate. While he was in this country, he did seem to be paying less tax than I was and I assumed that he was receiving something for our son.
