My local 25kg, doubles has just gone up to £7.50.
I had once bought a 'cheap' 25kg bag of coal from the veg shop in Portglenone for £6 last year and did not get the same heat from the usual stuff. I have never bought the stuff since.
What price is coal near you? If bigger bags worked out cheaper then I would buy those.
Please no daft replys...

£7.50 is too dear. You should be able to get it for £6.00 to £6.50.
PS. I am assuming that you collect it yourself. Delivered will be more expensive0 -
LCC charge 7.50 per bag if you buy 10 bags, further discount the more you buy. We also bought cheap stuff last year, but it isnt cost effective. The dearer stuff burns far warmer and lasts far longer. A small bucket .ould last all day, whereas it took 3 or 4 buckets of the cheap stuff. You can get LCC coal at petrol stations etc around here (south derry) but not sure if it is available as far as you?
Just to add, made no difference if it was a big bag or small bag, but volume did make a difference. ie
10 x 25kg or 5 x 50 kg = £75 - 7.50 per bag
20 x 25kg or 10 x 50 kg = £145 - 7.25 per bag
This was the price delivered and put in my garage.0 -
We buy doubles in 50Kg bags and it's currently £13.50 a bag. It's better value that way.

I pick the 25kg bag up myself from the local garage. It is not the cheap stuff. But doubles.
I can only guess that the £6-£6.50 is for what is called 'household coal, or 'economy coal'.:beer:0 -

This is for doubles. I do not know where the term comes from. It seems to be smaller than household coal. About the size of wallnuts and quite regular. As far as I can see it is the cheapest as when I asked for the cheapest that is what I was told was the cheapest. It burns very well. I do not see why it seems to be cheapest. Must be something to do with where it comes from.0 -
Get coal called "premium doubles", supplied by O'Kanes Mallusk, for £7 a bag, with a small discount for each 5 bought. This is cash and carry. I bought 2 bags of black diamond doubles from a hayes cash and carry recently for £8.10 a bag. Despite costing more, the coal appears better, at least in terms of ash left over (there was very little) compared to the o kanes doubles. That said I don't know if it is actually more efficient to burn.0

I know its a bit far away but Capper fuels near coal island charge 5.50 for a bag of doubles and their triple heat coal is 5 per bag and burns really well.0

Yeah I know everything's cheaper down there, but it would cost too much in petrol to get down, and it's seldom the neck of the woods I'd ever be in anyway.
Would love it if there was a supplier this cheap in Belfast.0 -
I go to Ards fuels to get mine and get their 5* Columbian coal. £6.50 for 25Kg bag but as we normally get about 16 bags in the tailor we get a bit of discount. A website for them is here, but I don't know how often it's updated. The prices are correct as of a few weeks ago:
