its so surprising what can be bought and made.. and i think its good to set a budget.. ive been doing it for a few weeks and ive noticed we are not throwing food away any more. You appreciate what you have, make things with care.. weve lost weight and are saving a fortune not gettin takeaway anymore. Weve had a few treat nights where we go to Asda see the reduced 10p stuff and have that for tea.. last week we had garlic nan, pesto pasta, dips, and pizza .. think it came to 40p and we had a massive platefull each..:-)

i love when that happens but i hate driving in the dark and if i sent hubby he's come home with £10 of crisps/choclate (he's usually good but he does get late night munchies so isn't the best time to send him) so i really only go late in the summer, my freezer is fit to burst so i couldn't fit anymore in if i tried anyway :)

a freezer or alot of time to cook/shop really is a must to keep your budget down imo if you can manage both even better :)

is this your first baby? i have 3 kids under 6 and honestly i'm tireder now being a sahm than i ever was working 50hrs a week and double shifts :rotfl: i find it emtionially draining and hate all the running about and never getting a lie in

sadly not everyone has time and most of the meals i listed only take 30mins to make and cook, but all my prices were based on tesco as thats where i shop and anyone can do an online shop and pretty much everything keeps in the freezer

  • Haven't read the whole thread but wanted to add my input...

I feed myself, Dan, occasionally our lodger Ed, and 9 animals on £25 per week (£108.33 pcm [{£25 x 52} / 12]). This includes all cleaning products, shampoo etc, cat litter, dishwasher tabs, etc etc. Oh and also includes the delivery charge from Asda when I get the main shop delivered after payday (impossible to do a big shop at the supermarket due to my working hours, location of supermarket and lack of car..)

It's not easy, but we have NO choice, there is no room for more in our budget if we want to pay all the bills.

I meal plan for every single day of the month, and take leftovers for lunch at work every day. Nothing gets chucked out (unless I've been totally lax and forgotten a tub stuffed at the back of the fridge and it's gone hairy!), and meat meals get bulked out with veggies, lentils, bread to mop up gravy (and fill us up).. I work out exactly how many cat food tins we need for all 6 of them (62 for a 31 day month, as they also have Royal Canin biscuits, which I get free from a staff sales incentive scheme at work - am a vet nurse) and buy all that in one go.

I tend to do a big Asda shop after payday, totalling £90-£95 on average, with lots of milk, butter and bread which get frozen to use up throughout the month, so then we have whatever is left up to £108.33 for extra top up throughout the month, mainly milk, fruit and butter ,which we get from Aldi round the corner.

For all 11 of us, it works out at £2.27 per 'person', per week. And we have plenty of fruit, veggies, and meat in our diets.

Ain't easy, but can be done with a lot of careful shopping and planning.

i know your on the old style boards so why not try listing an average weeks meals over there and we'll see if we can help cut it down (since we've already taken over this thread:o) or if you list the contents of your cupboards/fidge/freezer you might be suprised just how many meals you already have in, i always feel like we have no food in because my fridge is empty all the time and my freezer is full of meat rather than quick things or nibbles

feel free to private message me if you want anymore help

and merry christmas to you all :)
