Hair Lightner?

Hiya, was wondering if anyone in the know could help me!
Ive dyed my hair but its much darker than I thought and now doesnt match my hair extensions! It needs to be abit lighter to match.
Ive been looking on the net for ideas but I dont really know what im looking for, I know dying it again wont help, is there any hair lightner products I can buy online? The hair dye has come out a dark brown with a slight red tint, my extensions are called dark auburn but there more like a medium brown with redish tint.
I was looking online for those at home hair highlighting kits that L'oreal and Garnier do but cant seem to find them anywhere either, was thinking maybe I could apply lots of highlights to make it lighter but cant find any at home highlighter kits either.
HELP!!!

I've done this myself when I stupidly changed hair colour brands, I'd just bought new hair extensions too:( There is a colour remove product but I haven't used it as it would appear to turn your hair orange and wreck the condition, I would suggest lots of hair washing in a good stripping shampoo, original head n shoulders works, Herbal Essences clarifying shampoo works too, washing up liquid works very well and so does vodka (cheap stuff is fine), keep washing, 6 or 7 seven times each time, it will fade eventually, in the meantime it could be time for some new hair accessories - good luck:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

Massage warm olive oil though your hair and then wash out with washing up liquid.
The warth makes the oil penetrate into the hair; the oil then grabs onto the colour particles and the the WUL washes it all out.
Repeat a couple of times and should strip quite a bit of colour without too much drying.I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler0 -
There are a number of hair lightening products you can find at boots. they are designed to remove dye from your hair, but you would normally put another colour over it as the result will be very washed out. I would definitely do a strand test to see how long to leave the lightener on as you may be able to match it to your extensions.
hair lighteners are often used to get to a blonde colour, so be very careful you don't end up with yellow hair!
I have heard that dandruff shampoos wash colour out quickly.0 -
I think any hair lightener would make your hair much lighter that your looking for and yellowish, you would then have to dye over it trying to get it the shade you want, it'll be much easier to just try to fade it a little bit.
I agree with the ladies, use anti-dandruff shampoo, washing up liquid (the warm oil is a good idea), maybe even a squirt of lemon juice, any of these things should lighten it up a bit. Have you tried your extentions in since you coloured your hair? You might find that if the colour difference isn't too obvious it adds some dimention/interest/texture to your hair??
Good luck! x0 -
Hi guys thanks so much for all the fantastic advice!
Big problem is my hair extenstions are sewn in like a weave so it would be alot of hassle and fuss to take them out again! I did take a snippet of the hair extensions with me when I went looking for the hair dye and thought id got the right colour but its just come out so dark! It was a brand I dont normally use, think it was clairol and I always use L'oreal Feria and it always produces great results and matches my extensions brilliantly, but this time ive gone for different colour extensions and they didnt have the colour I wanted in the Boots I was in so I just went with the different brand cause it was busy and I was getting stressed!
Ive now ordered online the hair colour stripper (B4 Hair colour remover) and another hair dye from L'Oreal Feria colour p50 pure amber which should match my extentions, if I didnt have the hair sewn in I would go down the shampoo and oil route but as I cant take the extensions out like that ive got no choice but to do the colour stripper as my hair colour is so noticeable and I cant go out like this! I know its gonna damage my hair alot which sucks because ive spent the past year really looking after my hair and deep conditioning it, looks like il be back to square 1, but I do invest in good hair products to protect my hair and will use leave in conditioners and deep conditioning treatments to get it back to health.
FannyAdams thats a good idea about letting the colour difference blend in with the extensions, ive done this before with a black and brown and its worked well but this colour just looks nothing like the extensions so wouldnt work this time unfortunately!
Thanks everyone for the advice x0 -
The only thing i would advise is don't put the permanant colour on straight after using colour B4 - i think you have to wait a couple of weeks and they only recomend using toners until then.
Nothing to do with condition - but how the colour will come out.I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler0 -
I think you'll be fine with the ColourB4 I've used it a few time, it makes my hair a delightful orange shade but doesn't damage it - it feels fine after a good deep condition (but I do seem to have teflon hair!) I used it recently and used semi-permanant colours afterwards but they just didn't take to my hair - it was still just bright orange. It was only a permanant colour that worked in the end.0
