Call me Dave says "non" to Euro bailout

http://www.guardian.co.uk/global/2011/dec/19/eurozone-crisis-live
The Press Association is reporting that the UK has effectively sunk the €200bn EU-IMF package, by refusing to contribute "its" £25bn portion of the loan.

From PA:

It is understood that Mr Osborne has secured the removal of the 200 billion euro (£168 billion) figure from the final communique to be released following today's conference call, though the text may mention the 150 billion (£126 billion) to be supplied by eurozone members.

5.45pm: Without £25bn from the UK, it appears impossible tonight that the IMF-EU rescue fund could reach its €200bn target.

I think I can almost hear Sarkozy's reaction to this over here.

Good, what is the point of throwing more money in to the bottomless pit of the Euro bailouts.

Thoroughly agree, tossing another £25Bn into another meaningless bailout is pointless.

The Eurozone has the money to sort out it's own problems, they just don't have the political will.

    Good.

Why on earth should the UK pay when the ECB could turn on the printing press as part of a managed restructuring program.

Europe's problems are entirely solvable (in the short term) internally. They don't need to do anything other than agree a restructuring and then print.
  • Although the UK will get the blame, it appears we were not the only ones reluctant to throw good money after bad.

The surrender monkeys will be bouncing of the walls about this one.....:D

  • Euro rage is reaching new heights over Britain's latest outrage.

Our refusal to pony up a further €31bn we cannot afford, to prop up a monetary union that was created against our wishes and better judgment, and with the malevolent purpose of accelerating the great leap forward to a European state that is inherently undemocratic.

It is being presented as treachery, Anglo-Saxon perfidy, and the naked pursuit of national self-interest.

    An excellent article me thinks.

Perhaps a few of these retire at 50 EU countries need to realise, here in the UK the average UK workers is licking it from the stones and looking at working until they drop dead on the job, if you can afford to sit around on double pensions at 50 and 55 you dont need money from those who can not even pay the gas and electric bill.
