My 14 year old son went to purchase a hat in this store without knowing the price ,as there was no price on item.On presenting the item at the cash desk ,as it was scanned for payment he found out that it was £27.99 .He felt pressured into paying for it as was not allowed time to actually think if he really wanted it.As the transaction proceeded he phoned his dad who argued with store manager that he now wanted a refund. The store manager said it was not company policy to do refunds and would only offer a credit voucher. My son had not left the store and remained at the cash desk throughout this fiasco.
Do stores really have the right to rob children ,especially as the item was not priced to start with?Porty123

Unfortunately if it was paid for then some shops will turn around and refuse a refund. They do not have to refund unless the item is faulty. This may seem harsh, but it is how things work. Personally, I would have refunded him, but it is not always that simple, codes have to be entered by senior staff to open a lot of tills.
The age of the person buying, so long as they are capable of going alone to purchase the item, is irrelevant.
Maybe this is a lesson he will remember, and if something is not priced he will actually ask how much it is before he hands over the money.
Sorry it is not the answer you want. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
I know some shops have this policy, I think it's sp.orts direct that did this to me when I tried to return a pair of running bottoms.0

Maybe get the credit voucher and keep it until there is a sale ? (the hat might be reduced too).
Make sure he knows in future to ask them to check the price for him. Annoying though for you and him. Was it for a Christmas Present? I have a teenager of a similar age and would be annoyed too. It's amazing how they can lose confidence over things like this.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

No - if the item wasnt priced and your son asked for a 'price check' then he had the opportunity to say 'No thanks'.
Sorry, but if he just took the item to the till and DIDNT SAY he just wanted the item price checked, then when the items price came up - he STILL had the opportunity to say 'No thanks'!
Even when the cashier totalled the purchase - he could still have said 'No thanks' and walked away!
He handed over his money hun and he should NOT have done that if he wasnt happy with the price!
Please teach him the above basic rules!
ask for a 'price check' and the cashier 'knows' he isnt ready to pay - just wants to know the price!
YOU do not HAVE to pay for your purchases even if the cashier has put them all through and is waiting for payment - you can STILL change your mind and walk away!!!
You do not have any right to a full cash refund if you just 'CHANGE YOUR MIND' after purchase unless the store policy is to allow that!
most stores will be flexible - some wont, but that is their right!0
