  • It does not have a run-on timer so just needs to be connected to a switched live supply from the light.

Switch off the electricity at the fusebox then locate the other end of the fan cable, most likely at the ceiling light rose. Disconnect the earth wire and reconnect to the earth terminal. Disconnect the red (or brown) wire and reconnect to the switched live terminal (also connected to the brown wire to lampholder).

    Hi.

The old fan had 3 wires going into it (L, N, T(earth?)), the new one only has a requirement for 2 (L&N). The old fan was controlled by the light. I am thinking that perhaps this 'earth' wire is infact the clever one...?

When you say it has '3 wires' what colours are they? The one you say you think is the earth is this a copper cable with either tape wrapped around it or sleeving that could be slid off or is it just a plain yellow?

Also adding a picture would help give you better answers if you are able to do that
